Hm. Chances are that you read information from people who don't know what they are talking about. Mandarins and wood ducks and the two general starter birds because of how easy they are. Ergo how popular they are. I just sold a pair to a zoo in Utah. I would take the ducklings out. That's always...
Take the ducklings away from the parents. Mandarin ducklings are one of the easiest to raise. Since this is your first time buy them meal worms give it to them for about a week or two. Mazuri is the best feed for them as well. Keep the brooder as clean as possible.put the food in the water and...
Put tin all around the bottom of the pen that will help keep out predators. Evergreens and bamboo are two good ones. Don't put artificial grass in there the birds will try to eat in and that's not good for them. Hope you have good luck with them!! :)
Mandarin eggs can't be found on eBay at about 60$ for just two eggs. It's not worth it. Maybe if you have an rcom incubator but even if you do it's still not worth it. Ornamental ducklings are not sold. Universal rule kinda.
The red crowned are currently only kept in one private collection in the United States apart from zoos. I just got back from the facility they are kept at. The curator there is good friends with the lubbocks.

Yeah that's what I meant by exotics. Pheasants included. The only exotics that Ik off that can be housed with domestics are tinamous but it's still not advised
I currently raise wood ducks, white mandarins, black belly whistling ducks, n.a shovelers, red crested Pochards, comb ducks, ruddy shelducks, cape shelducks, and peafowl. I'll be getting n.a ruddys, chiloe widgeons, smew, tragopans, and some argus pheasants soon. Also next year around this time I...
