    Oh, I forgot to mention, but kinda self explanitory! These eggs where at least 28 days old when hatchling 1 came to the outdoors! Oh my chickens are semi free range they are in my fenced in back yard, with 2 nigerian doe goats.

    Great point! We now have 3 hens sitting on 7 to 10 eggs each. Plus the abandonded nest of the first eggs that were being sat on Just so you know, these eggs are kind of dirty, poop on them etc. Now the 3 nests that are being sat on now, those eggs look clean.     Yeah? Cool! That is good to hear! We love the idea of our "native" born and raised on location flock! But has been 4 days since the chick hatched, those eggs may still hatch? Now that hen is sitting on a different nest with 5-6 eggs! Broody is catchy

    No, i did not candle the eggs. I thought "let nature take its coarse"!!! Are the abandoned eggs no good? Should i get them out of the nest? I mean no hens are sitting on them.

    Is anyone familiar with or have the farm innovations H- 429 submersible 1500 watt tank heater? My question is... will it sit flat in the bottom of a 5 gallon bucket. And if it does, is there a little room to spare, so it can "wiggle" on down past some horizontal nipples mounted in the bucket

    Great write up and pictures! We are located in N.Y. state and got 6 straight run buff O' a couple years back from TSC. We ended up with 2 roosters and 5 hens... lucky! They ARE great birds, friendly, but don't underestimate them! They will hold thier own.
