Hello,
I too have chickens born in March that were laying arnd are not now....mine too look healty and don't look like they are molting
I do have feathers in the coop and run...to me its not like massive feathers but quite a few none the less.....but the chickens don't look bare and they are...
My Goodness...this is all very sad news but somehow I feel a little vindicated....
I am new to this chicken stuff...got my first chickens this year March 3rd and they were 3 days old....mid July I started getting 2 or 3 eggs a day by the end of July I was getting 4 or 5 then all of August I was...
Thanks for the good advice
My spaniels are all in kennels on the other side of the property so they are not close. I had my hen house built where it is because I was afraid the barking of the dogs would have an effect on the chickens so I thought about all that prior to getting chickens....no...
Well, all you people were right....just at dusk all my girls went back to the coop....I did a head count and closed the door...what good little girls they are !!
Of course they are so funny....I was so nervous all day I kept going out checking on them...counting them...some would be in the...
ChobeeChickenMommy I am so sorry....I didn't know chickens could drown themseleves. OMG...
My heart goes out to you for your loss. I think you get attached to these girls like I do so it hurts when one dies or something happens to them.
Try not to beat yourself up over it. God must have...
I was thinking that....I am having trouble with not getting eggs right now so if I let them roam around how will I know they didn't lay an egg somewhere ?
OK...they seemed to wonder in the coop and run so I closed the door...I guess I am just a nervous Nelly
I will start letting them out for short periods of time closer to the end of the day.
I took a few pictues of them out but is there anyway I can post a picture or two here ?
Hey Polish
You say you don't usually post in this section, why is that ? Is there another place I would have been better off posting to to get advice from ?
OK...great ideas..just wish I knew about the one about putting them out an hour or so before dark...that's what I should have done on day 1 and then increase their time a little bit each day..
That would have been the smart thing to do...but then I am always known for learning things the hard...
My girls are 7 months old now and have never been out of their coop and run before....today I have let them out into the cold cruel world....I just hope nothing happens to them
I am watching them closely...except for now I came in to post this ...
Does anyone think they will run off....and not...
Thanks Cass for the moral support....but I do worry about my girls....I know it sounds silly but I actually just love those girls...I had them since they were 3 days old and I go talk to them several times a day
I was wondering..
Currently I have a very nice coop with an attached covered...
Thanks Chillin
I got mine in March so mine are a little younger...
I didn't use a light until 2 days ago
Mine too have a run they can go out when they want
I don't free range because way too many predators here
I use layer crumble and I use oyster shell as well
I also give them cracked...
Dear Overrun
Do they free range? Have you wormed them lately or ever? Do they have lice or mites? A change in food will throw them off, but they DO need to be on a "layer" feed for the nutrients in that feed as opposed to "grower" food which doesn't have the calcium they need. Do you have...
My chickens are not free range.....
I have 4 astrolopes..(sp) 2 sexlinks...5 Rhode Island Reds and 2 Plymouth barred Rocks
all of these are just 7 months old as of October 1st....not all were producing to begin with...now none are producing
I did add a light but I was increasing the light...
Are there other Floridians out there who are experiencing the problem of your chickens not laying eggs ?
I have 13 chickens I got on March 3, 2011 they were born March 1st. 5 or 6 of them started laying eggs the last 2 weeks of July, which I am told was early for them to start laying that...
