Just left vet with three of the hens. He’s thinking something GI (salmonella, ecoli, coccidiosis). 2 of the hens had smelly fluid coming from their beaks and I think it’s sour crop, he says maybe (smells like sour beer). Doing SMZ for about 3 weeks, also deworming them. Vet wants me to...
The vet hasn’t seen them (appointment is tomorrow night). I only talked on the phone and he decided meds based on that. Didn’t seem to concerned about treating the crop issue. Vet said something about an 8 or 12 week egg withdrawal but don’t know where he got that info. My boyfriend questioned...
That’s a respiratory infection right? No signs of any respiratory issues.
I gave a dose of miconazole tonight. Deciding if we are giving the sulfamethoxazole. My boyfriend is worried about the eggs being unsafe to eat since no official egg withdrawal info that we can find.
Ok vet called…..said he wouldn’t recommend miconazole…..but said I could try one dose. Also said no ACV (my boyfriend wanted to use that)
He wants me to start SMZ pills tonight. Said don’t give corid bc it may not be coccidia
I’m not thrilled with a 12 week egg withdrawal period but his...
This morning crops were full and spongy. At vet with my dog now (allergic reaction to a sting) but heading home and can recheck )
just remembered the vet said she thought it might be coccidiosis because she said they don’t get loose poop from sour crop.
I don’t know what she was thinking… The one that had the red tinged poop was not the one that she saw in office last night. She wanted to give SMZ but I read that was not safe to give if we wanted to eat the eggs so she switched to tylan
I have to see if he threw the bag away. Crops feel squishy and large.
saw one poop, was liquidy and red tinted. I’m thinking maybe coccidiosis but fecal vet did last night was negative (though she said it could be bc it was watery). She said to give tylan, but everyone online is saying corid...
I’ve had these chickens since they were a couple days old and they are seven months old now
The only thing that changed in the last couple days was the brand of grit that we were using… They weren’t eating as much so I don’t know if that is what triggered the issue, or if it just has been...
Yes they always have a grit available. They were eating the new country organics and it’s like a mix of grains so the one vet that I called last night said to get them off of that and put them on just a pelleted food. He said he thinks that some of them may have been picking out specific...
No respiratory issues last night at vet
Poor sweet girl just died :(. Only 7 months old
and I checked my other birds and 4 had crops that didn’t empty over night (one looks really big so I fear I’m losing her next ).
thank you, that's what I thought.....that's why I was confused by what the vet said. I couldn't get hen to take the epsom salt orally (and was scared forcing it would choke her) so I tried an epsom salt bath......figured it was better than nothing. And I asked vet about Corid and she didnt...
I have one pretty sick hen (7 months old). Bad sour crop, can't even touch her crop without fluid coming out of her mouth. When I went to hold her she dribbled some fluid then choked for a second so I'm worried she aspirated :(
She had a poopy butt and very lethargic. Took her to vet, she...
I have a hammer, a screw driver and a problem with my right (dominant) hand. So I’m just buying a coop LOL. Going to try and get my boyfriend to put together a run quickly and then I can slowly work at improving it. Just need to to be predator proof
