Not a living eagle but it signify historic joining when Czar married the Byzantine empire niece....
2 headed eagle was symbol of Byzantine empire , so he added another head.
I normally start processing at dawn before the yellow jackets get out.
I bought yellow jackets traps. There's different ones for West and East of the Rocky's. The bait that comes with doesn't attract them right away. I put raw chicken bits in them and it works.
I have been culling since covid, over 150 in the last 5 years.
Stupid neighbors like to watch so they put out corn.... When the food is gone they come down to check out the poultry buffet 😞
I planted soaked garlic yesterday and carefully marked each variety with flags. Then I leveled the ground. Leaving the pitchfork upright in the ground.
This morning I came out to this 😱 with racoons tracks.
First year I soaked the garlic
Most reports of coops with weasels kills, are that every animal that moved were killed.
I remember one account that the camera recorded one hen froze on the roost and survived.
These coops were thought to be secure
Unfortunately the two I kept were attacked by a fox, along with other hens and teenagers. One had no head and the other was tore up on the back, but walking around.
I debated on trying to save but decided to put down. Good thing I did because lots of internal bleeding.
Last year I have a turkey that hatched a couple cockerels but never got off the nest. She sat on the rest of the eggs for a month and another month after I took the eggs. The chicks ran under her and she tucked them in.
This year she didn't hatch anything but 2 different hatches of poults...
It's not rural anymore... but still a farm across the road and a forest preserve on one side. No lights on the road in front but RT 80 has lights.
Light enough at night for trees to cast shadows without moonlight.
I have had persistent broodys that sit for months with eggs that blow up. Usually I can tell because the others are grabbing green uck from under her. One Time I was standing there telling her she needed to give up and hear a loud pop... The stench ran me out and hens in. They had it cleaned up...
