    Help sour crop

@Wyorp Rock Have you had hens have crop stasis during a molt. My 5 yo EE recently had this. In fact, the same time last year I had to have crop surgery and this year same time, her gut stopped moving food. The vet prescribed antibiotics, fenbendazole (she had Capillaria in her droppings)...

Correlation between molting and extremely slow crop?

I think there is a correlation. I have a favorite hen who just past away from this. Last year we spent over $1000 on crop surgery for her. The thought was that she had a gizzard impaction. It was so sad watching her try to eat grit and drink water to clear it on her own. The crop stasis...

    Crop That Won't Empty

I have 2 LGDs that keep my free-roaming girls safe, but my girls constantly have worms (roundworms, hairworms, cecal worms) -- one of my neighbors keeps her hens penned and all her hens live twice as long as mine. I wonder if they just simply have less parasites from wild birds or insects.

    HELP! Impacted Crop

@Chold05 I have a 5 year old hen with this problem. Last year around October, right around her molt, her crop slowed. I spend over a thousand to have crop surgery. Afterwards, I had to tube feed her. She spent 2 months in a dog crate. This year it happened again! I am this close to...

    Crop That Won't Empty

After having 2 hens with crop issues the past 2 months, I realize how common it is. It makes me wonder if penning chickens is really the safest for them. It seems like those with confined chickens see their chickens living to their teens. My son, however, said the hens who are used to free...

    Crop That Won't Empty

@coach723 Thank you for taking the time to write that and for sharing your necropsy. I have been treating for parasites -- she has had 5 doses of Fenbendazole and topical Ivermectin drops. I have given her subcutaneous fluids. I was hoping it was the Capillaria that was causing inflammation...

    Crop That Won't Empty

@coach723 Could you tell me more about the impacted gizzard? I have a 5 year old girl with a crop that is not emptying. She had it at the exact same time last year (right at the beginning at the molt). The vet last year said it was an impacted gizzard and this year (a different vet) we found...

    Impact gizzard

@azygous I looked up one of your old posts: "The protocol is one-half cup of warm water with one teaspoon of Epsom salts given by tubing directly into the crop each morning for three consecutive days. Plenty of fresh plain water is made available afterward. Then normal diet following each...

    Impact gizzard

I already have a red rubber catheter and 60 ml syringe kit from last year. Can I do both? Give 10 ml olive oil and an epsom salt flush?

    Impact gizzard

@dawg53 @azygous @Eggcessive I have a 5 year old Easter Egger hen whose crop just won't empty. I knew she wasn't well when I saw that she hadn't emptied her crop when I let them out of the coop in the morning. Literally, last year she had the same thing happen and she needed crop surgery...

    Sour Crop Again & Worms?

My vet who treats exotics, small animals, and chickens told me that you really need to treat with Nystatin for at least 4 weeks. 1 week is not enough. Also avoid giving anything that promotes yeast growth, so avoid anything with sugar.

    AquaSol safegu

@Eggcessive -- Just curious, since Aquasol and Safeguard are both Fenbendazole, why is it that Aquasol cannot treat capillary and gapeworms? I went to Merck's site and they mention that, but of course if you look up Safeguard, since it is not indicated for poultry there is no information.

Anybody tried wrapping their roost bars in rope?

I think my poop board is not low enough.

Found more round worms but hens seem fine and too soon for more dewormer?

Are you worried about the worms developing resistance? I was thinking about alternating between Levamisole and Albendazole/Fendbendazole.

@dawg53 Can you direct dose levamisole?

Calcium Gluconate for Egg Bound Ducks - Preliminary

I would estimate. One drop is 0.05 ml, so 0.2 ml is 4 drops.

2 y/o hen lethargic and not eating, barely drinking. Stays isolated…help

Hi Azygous-- I believe Calcium Lactate may be more bioavailable than Calcium Citrate. I am investigating this because I have a duck and a hen I have been giving calcium citrate to and the shells remain thin. I am going to try other forms of calcium.

    Thin Fragile Duck Eggs

I always have wondered how well this is absorbed, since it is meant to be injected.
