Other than possibly seed sales and bragging rights, what do 1800 pound pumpkins get you?
Unless you're Peter Peter. And what did his wife think of being kept in a pumpkin shell? It sounds cold, damp, and moldy to me.
Is your mind and life empty that you feel you must fill it with being a troll on a chicken site?
That's what I want to say on threads like that. Nope, missed it. Ok by me.
A few days ago, Squeak stood on my lap for awhile. I talked to her about the book I was reading, and other thoughts that wandered through my head. She looked like she was very interested in what I had to say.
If this scene had been in a sitcom, she probably would have pooped on me.
Instead...
I'm from the mitten too, so maybe this will help you. The entire thread has good information, but I linked to my post since we might have very similar climates. Where in Michigan are you? You can put your location in your profile, and then people will be able to see it...
Sassafras trees can get to be about 8-10 inches in diameter, 40-50ish feet tall, 30-40 ish years old, I'd guess. They spread. A lot. From the berries, which birds eat and then poop out, and they also pop up as suckers from the roots. They can become invasive. Somewhat similar to Autumn Olive...
I have about the same highs and lows as you do, but I think my air might be more humid in the winter.
I do not have any supplemental heat in the coop. I do have a heated dog bowl as the waterer to keep the water liquid in the cold months.
Yes!!! I never thought of that! I've thought they looked like ghosts ever since the first time I saw sassafras leaves about 31 years ago when we moved here.
Some of the leaves look like mittens instead. Appropriate for Michigan. :)
I need a fairly calm day to put up the shower curtains on the run. Might be a few days yet.
One thing I really need to do is burn the stuff in the burn barrel. Depending on the direction of the breeze/wind, I might do it today.
@CanyonCoopKeeper, before you think about how many of what breed, look at your set up. How big is your coop? How big is your run? Pictures of both would tell us more about what you have. Will you free range?
The most often quoted rule of thumb for space is 4 sq feet per chicken in the coop...
I wonder if I can grow collards in the green house? It's not heated. But maybe it also doesn't have the bugs that have eaten EVERY SINGLE COLLARD I have ever tried to grow!
Today will be taken up with hubby's dental appointment. When we get back, I'll see what I feel like doing outside.
Anyone else dreading the Fall Back time change? It'll be getting dark at 5:30. I really wish we would pick one, either Daylight Saving or Standard, and stop changing the clocks...
