To me, love and grief for one is not a discount or knock on any other. Each one is so different, unique. The circumstances are unique too. The pain of loss reflects your journey with them. They are our companions in life.

I relate. When I lost Lil' Queenie it really affected me deeply, it felt like I'd lost a family member, but more than that, not an adult family member, but more like a child: someone I was responsible for and had failed to protect. This is a very deep and awful...
Very interesting, I really liked that you measured while roaming around describing each spot. Thank you for doing that! Such varying heights and slopes. So - at least for your group there they really prefer the ground, and within that area, there are preferred areas. Stand-alone objects of some...
Frequent crop massage will help, & those poops are a good sign, the last one looks great. If she has a problem further down her digestive tract it’s too soon to tell, so just go with the flow. @bgmathteach did successful crop surgery on one of her hens, Crop Girl, if you want to consult with her.
Great ideas here, thanks!
I have a couple of these camo leafy blinds that have worked really well for the dappled leaf hide. But they aren’t very UV resistant, and haven’t lasted, in two years the material has gotten pretty beat and nylon threads are coming out of the “leaves”. Not available...
Yesterday worked on the construction (still; the roof) and put down shavings on both sides of the divider. I moved the curtain visual block to a partial middle position, about 1/3-1/4 blocked, hoping that with the distraction and shavings interest and that it was the middle of the day they might...
Here's Annie not happy about Shehani right there at their run. He was out of their run with the pullets. She's making this persistent whine at him. This is right after fighting through the fence, they pecked at each other and Shehnai brought his feet up briefly before going back to tidbitting.
Perches are good, but Mr. Chips will be able to jump even better than they, farther & faster with each leap, right up there too. Here, Hazel & the BO's wouldn't stay on the perch feeling safe, like "Go ahead and try and mate me here, you can't do it!" No, they are just all panicked in escape...
Very interesting, maybe a high-ish flat spot feels too exposed and not safe from potential aerial predators to them?
The pullets here have used the low side table to go under to get away from Shehnai (@bgmathteach and you recommended?) but he's not really pursuing them yet.
Yes me too, lots more in the Buckeye's run to do. There's a couple low logs on cinder blocks and a couple chair/tables now, need much more.
The great vertical stuff is mostly in the Bigs' side right now, where they don't actually need it presently, except to better view what's going on from a...
Trying to post about the excavation & coop placement —
Before big coop attachment to run, big coop directly in view, little coop to the left, you can only see the run part.
See the gravel "path" to the left of the striped cloth, that's the swale drain we put in to help divert the water coming...
I have a hanging weight now, and maybe a bag big enough, but haven't tried it yet. I am so tired at night these days! I don't want to try to wrangle them in the day, & I feel it might upset the trust they have in me. Gotta do it soon though, & be ready for when they really need medical care!
Excavation adequate, needs more but enough to get the coop in place
Hanging out with the young Buckeyes
I like her foot in this picture!
Definitely something needing inspection here
Mr. Shehnai looking glorious. His comb is brlliant
He'll eat with the pullets at the feeders, but also...
I agree with your ideas. I thought I’d heard cooked pumpkin is something you give dogs for their gut health. The fiber may be more digestible, “just right”, when it’s cooked?
I left the pumpkin for a long time, until it got covered with run litter & dirt & started to look nasty and I worried...
