Besides hatching only other thing I use them for is eating lol. They dont protect hens at all. So once I’m done with them for that season freezer they go.
The ones I processed where 20250608 (19 weeks),20250629 (16 weeks),2025720 (13 weeks)and 20250803 (11 weeks)hatches. This is about the age sometimes younger on standards because the meat is the most tender. Some are smaller so I will eat two at a time.
Processed all the ones I didn’t want
two green bands One Pink Band Orange Bands Broody hatched forgot to take a pic of the other black one before hand
Other black one after
Well the cockerel I was gonna use died. So now I have no male so prolly won’t be breeding these anymore Because I’d be generations set back now and that’s just getting to be a waste of time unless the ch is split mottled which I doubt.
So gave this pen a pumpkin to carve we’ll see how it goes. This pen had a chocolate Easter egger that could be split mottled over two mottled hens and a black laced hen that’s split to mottling who lays green eggs. I have almost a doz eggs from that hen so imma test hatch to see if he’s split...
Size of the bird doesn’t matter to me I’ve processed seramas before and silkies, all taste like chicken. I process my standards at 12 weeks waiting for my silkies to get bigger so I can process them as well.
