What a pretty girl! She does look like my NH's.
I only know enough to know I don't know anything, so I'm not sure what other breeds might look like that.
The NH are very outgoing and want to get to know me, but they are also active and definitely need the room of the "in-between" coop they were transferred to today.
They really are pretty. It will be interesting for you to watch her grow and see what you have.
Inez is the most skittish, and the one getting bullied a bit. Because of her personality, that is part of what made the think pullet. I figured a roo might be developing a bit of aggressiveness against the bullying by this age.
Yes. Ideal poultry. But 100% is never guaranteed, so I wanted to get thoughts. My last order, a couple of years ago, was 10 chicks, but one was a male.
I agree on the little poofs. I was not expecting those as my last Olive Eggers from Ideal did not have crests.
All chicks, three New Hampshire Reds, one Welbar, two Olive Eggers, are 5 weeks old today. The pics were taken yesterday and today. I have them all pegged as pullets, but I'd like more informed eyes to take a look.
Inez (probably name, not sure) is the Welbar
Floy and Millie are the Olive...
Somewhat related question:
My three New Hampshires, one Welbar, and two Olive Eggers will be 5 weeks old tomorrow. At what age would be best for pics to help me determine if males or females?
I am so sorry. My chicks are only a few days older than yours, and they are not even in their transitional coop yet, but this is my huge fear.
RIP little Susie.
My latest group of girlies is 4.5 weeks old now. Two of them are Olive Eggers from Ideal. As you can see in the pic, the two OE's have crests. (The other with that coloring but no crest is the Welbar. The three reds are New Hampshires.)
As itty bittes, they were brown chipmunk. As they are...
I use VPN. Some of the servers are blocked, some are not. On the one I use, the higher numbers on the server (over approx 150) are not blocked. But the lower numbers are. I do not know why.
What a good momma! This really gives me some good info. I give my girls mash with mealworms soaked in it, and rarely does that get spilled, but their dry pellets are a different story.
As far as I know, I just have the regular olive eggers, not the blue (I wanted blue but they did not have them). I'll get some pics of what look like developing little crests tho. Because it's either that, or they are having a few really bad feather days. lol
My two original olive eggers laid...
I could have sworn I replied to this. My apologies I didn't. I love your onxy olive egger. Did she have the same brown chipmunk coloring as a chick, or was her baby fluff more black also?
I had two of their regular olive eggers a few years ago, but had to rehome them. They looked a lot like the...
How old are your chicks learning to use it? I like the clip idea for training the littles. It's good to know this feeder has helped with the beaking out. Some days, I lecture them about how money doesn't grow in trees, but they still aren't listening.
Bringing back this thread instead of starting a new one, to continue questions.
I have read about the Rat Proof Feeders here, and read the website. People have mentioned they have much less spillage. My girls literally scoop it out instead of eat at time, more than just a little spilllage...
