She's beautiful! And sweet, but dignified and somwhat demanding - talks to us all the time to demand treats or new areas to roam... whereas the buff cochin and Polish are really just sweet :)

How did you train your dog to live with chickens?

Sounds very reasonable @EmmaDonovan , thanks for sharing. I'm hoping they will get used to each other and definitely expect the chickens to freak out at first. When I got sheep it was a mess for half a year, then everyone calmed down and the sheep stopped being more curious than the chickens...

How did you train your dog to live with chickens?

Too funny! My friends have a dog who is obsessed with chicken poop and chases the chickens around just to smell their bums. What a life!

@Squawkers Thank you for these ADORABLE photos and video!!! They made my day :) That's my absolute dream scenario. I hope that one day, some of my pluckier hens will perch on the dog, just like yours <3

How did you train your dog to live with chickens?

Hi everyone! I've got 15 pet chickens whom I love very much and live quite closely with. I just put down a deposit on a puppy who will join us just before Christmas. She'll be nine weeks when she comes home, and I want to hear all you tips and advice on how to train her to peacefully cohabit...

    very sick hen

Hi, that's a lot to deal with. I'm just popping in to say that baytril doesn't mean you can never eat the eggs. When they say forever, it just means they haven't researched it enough to give you a time. Unless you are very worried about contamination, just wait a few weeks after you finish...

    Bumblefoot healing or no?

I think they both look pretty good. I would do what eggcessive suggests and give her a chance to heal. My vet recommends simply keeping feet bandaged (with antibiotic ointment) to keep pressure off the scabs while they heal. If we go digging around too deep we risk harming (and hurting) them...

    Please Help - 3y Brahma Hen w/Prolapsed Vent – First-Timer Seeking Advice

Hi, do you have access to a chicken vet? Sometimes an inflamed prolapse has a hard time healing or even staying 'in'. A vet can help by placing a tiny stitch in the cloaca, keeping things in place until the swelling goes down and things get a chance to calm down. The stitch is then removed...

Treatment for torticolis/wry neck after predator attack - help please

Hi @lilaht , I'm sorry to hear about your rooster. I hope he is not badly injured and pulls through. Margot got better by herself fairly quickly. She had the involuntarily head and neck movements for about 24 hours but not continuously. She was able to eat and drink by herself the whole time...

Treatment for torticolis/wry neck after predator attack - help please

Thank you @Eggcessive for sharing your knowledge so generously, as always. Yeah, in the US you call them hawks, in Europe we call them buzzards. It's the same species/family (buteo in Latin). Took me forever to figure out. I think what you in the US call buzzard is actually a type of vulture (so...

Treatment for torticolis/wry neck after predator attack - help please

Hi everyone, The day before yesterday, Margot our three year old silkie was attacked by what's called a buzzard over here in France. Might be a hawk in American parlance. The gang was free-ranging in the enclosed but sizeable back yard. I was alerted by their calls and came in time to avert the...

Lone Orpington in a flock of Brahmas - good or bad?

Yes absolutely, that's why I'm adding two and looking for a friend for the already confirmed buff cochin 😊 Great that you don't see any breed based things to worry about, thanks for taking the time to respond!

Lone Orpington in a flock of Brahmas - good or bad?

Hi! Low stakes question - I'm usually here when there is an emergency so this feels nice for a change 🙂 I've got space for two new girls in my flock of big breeds. The four current members are all brahma of different colours, including one rooster. One of the new girls will be a buff cochin...
