    Our newest adventure, EMU's!

I have read a couple of reports on the foreplay and coitus that I am looking for. The 'snake' dance being the first act, and the dancing around sounds like courtship. Then they go to the ground with him easing up on her slowly. I will report to you our observations. She has been a little...

    Our newest adventure, EMU's!

Our two emu turned into five and we are waiting on a White hen. I think Mumu is starting to settle down. She has a habit of taking a two-day walkabout every week or so but has been staying home for a while now. I guess she hasn't found a better cock so Limu will have to do. She chases him a...

    Imprinted Peachicks

We use IQ Bird Testing. There are many doing the testing and for less money, but IQ has been very accurate for us. We currently test about 150+ per year.

    Imprinted Peachicks

Yes, the two brown ones appear to be cocks and the White can not be determined at this age so yes spoil the hen chicks and stay fairly distant to the cocks so there won't be a problem later when they mature. It is normal for chicks to cry when they get 'lost' so momma and the other siblings can...

    Imprinted Peachicks

Peas are like kids, they are all different in their behavior. Just because some get aggressive as grown cocks defending their territory not all do. get the White DNA sex tested and if a hen keep her imprinted. The two cocks you can just not handle and they will end up just tame where you can...

New to Emus!!! Can they protect chickens against predators?

They are just as likely to be calm, sweet, and loving as they are to being completely psychotic and dangerous. Of our five emu two love to be held and petted, two will let you pet them and one we can't get close to. In peafowl, imprinting a cock can lead to a bird with no fear of humans that...

New to Emus!!! Can they protect chickens against predators?

Having had emu's for only a few weeks I am not much help but I would get the trio and look for someone to trade hens with. Being hatch mates is not necessarily going to mean they are full-on brother and sisters, but getting a non-related hen would be a good idea.

Interesting observation, I will keep this in mind as I pet my mature birds.

    What color is this peachick?

The Cameo cock is either split to White or Pied or possibly Dark Pied, I'd have to know what the parents are to say. The two Cameo Silver Pieds you will have to have DNA sexed. The two IB Wild Type you can't say they are Dark Pied without knowing the parents.

Is this split white or white eye?

Perhaps a pic of the two birds you are talking about, I don't know what you are referencing. Although 'Loud Pied' is not a genetic term it is seldom used as a description of a heavily white Pied usually carrying WE. Accepted patterns are Wild Type, Black Shoulder, Brown Wing, White, Pied...

Is this split white or white eye?

Split to either White or Pied is indistinguishable from each other. In this case, with the patch of white above, I would guess split to Pied or maybe Pied. There is no evidence of White Eye or it would have a silverish overall appearance and some white tips on the back feather tips. Also on...
