I think I have mine posted somewhere in this thread but maybe not. Here it is again.
And I’ll have to whittle numbers down once all 10 babies get to laying age because my run isn’t big enough for 13 full grown hens sadly. I knew that when I place my order for chicks tho, I planned on seeing...
I think I'm starting to like the previous feral and a-feared of humans chicks, rather than this batch who are super friendly.
I cant even clean their feed/water/sleeping area out with out all of them being all up in my business, underfoot, and in the way.
I guess I gotta cut back on the hand...
My feeders and waterers are in the run so I’m constantly in and out of the run.
Access to grab randomly laid eggs (it most definitely will happen), a sick or hurt chicken, cleaning or inspecting the run structure. There’s many reasons to need easy access to the run.
Build a door to it...
When I moved my flock of 6 from their temporary pen to their permanent pen, I locked them all in the coop for 3 days with food and water. That way they know the proper place to lay eggs and where to roost.
My run is also very secure but I didn’t want them sleeping or laying eggs in the run.
I can't honestly say. The couple times I filled it from empty after scrubbing it out I used the hose. In the winter time I do use a gallon jug to refill it but have never had it go completely empty.

Once that was done, spent a little time in the run with the littles just hanging out and watching them do chicken...
Not the best pics, hard to wrangle a chick yourself and take pics at the same time.
She's the pinkest out of this batch of 10 chicks of all different breeds. Everyone else is staying nice and yellow. And I had it in my head that orps were slow to mature, she was definitely slower than the...
I’m still currently at 10 chicks and everyone seems to be going strong.
The little snots are starting to sleep on top of their brooder, making more mess for me to clean up.
Yea, if they can access the top of that coop, they are gonna roost on top of it. Highest accessible place is prime roosting area. This was the night before they were moved to their permanent coop/shed.
Our shed is on a separate meter so it was easy to see. The back half of our house is actually my retired general contractor father's business storage and set up on a separate electric meter. The whole area is not temp controlled and not habitable. Now that he's retired, its rarely used so the...
