Open sore and permethrin dip (not emergency)

Oh wow, I've got to get those bottles! We buy the permetherin powder in a 10# bag then hubby and I sit there and try get it back into the can we bought it in. You ought to see that! Also, it's not as powdery, so it doesn't come out as nice. I bet one of those would work slick! We use it...

Open sore and permethrin dip (not emergency)

Hey there! Does your permetherin powder say .25% on it? Just making sure it's not some product that uses less of it than what's standard. Had you also done her coop twice when you did her twice? I've never heard of anyone not getting rid of them after doing the two treatments so this is...

    Hen 'Crowing' Video

Wow! That is so cool! Does she get oyster shell on the side? Just thinking maybe getting older, her bones are using more of the calcium she needs. We have a very old rooster that partakes in the oyster shell from time to time. They're on an all-flock which is low in calcium so he must need...

    Doxycycline? Withdrawal period?

I searched here as I trust our Educators more than random sites. @Eggcessive says it's 14 days. https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/can-the-hens-eggs-be-consumed-when-medicating-them-with-doxycycline-20.1563843/post-26538605 Certainly, you could go a month or longer if you wish though.

Is frostbite avoidable without electric heating? Should I add heat to my coop?

If you paint it with that Kilz, like @SourRoses suggested, that'd stop it, and keeping the humidity below 70% so it can't grow anyway should be easy now.

buying a greenhouse to serve partly as a chicken run

This is a heavy-duty greenhouse tarp that covers a pen that's 4' high, and the pen panels have HWC. That wooden box is what he made a mini-coop out of for that end, as this is a growout pen. So building one is one idea. To use the kind in your picture, you should be able to bend the HWC to...

Hi, Is this the spot? It's hard to see it, but I'd say no. You will see a lighter circle, similar to a bullseye, and I'm not sure I see one anywhere.

    I had to.

Yup, that's going to be happening here soon too as I just can't wait until spring. :) Wishing you a great hatch!

Is frostbite avoidable without electric heating? Should I add heat to my coop?

That alone will bring down the humidity. If you've got open waterers though, those I'd try to replace with nipple ones. We must have around 8 around here. Some are in heated coops, and some are store-bought electric ones.

Is frostbite avoidable without electric heating? Should I add heat to my coop?

$8 for 40# is cheaper than most anything. I would check around. Plus, they are cheaper in the long run because you don't need to change them but once a year or so.

Thats not bugs OR snow 🤧

We get them in a 40# bag at tractor supply. They're around $8 per bag. We put down a couple of inches and leave it alone for months if not a year. As long as they say 100% pine and they're horse bedding pellets, they should be the same thing.

Is frostbite avoidable without electric heating? Should I add heat to my coop?

I might have said this earlier, but I say it so often I forget where I was lol. Mold CAN start growing at 70% humidity. Horsebedding pellets, nipple waterers, no open water in the coops, exhaust fans, etc., are what we have to use. Those who say "more ventilation" doesn't work here, as the...

Thats not bugs OR snow 🤧

It probably is from the chickens. I'm thinking it might settle better into the pellets so it's not laying on top of the sand, but I wouldn't know that for a fact. I just know we have cameras in our pens and coops and we'll see a little bit of it but not to that extent.

Thats not bugs OR snow 🤧

We use horse bedding pellets year round. They keep the coop dry and odor-free as they absorb the moisture and dry out the poop. There is no dust, and when they get wet they turn to dustless, fluffy, sawdust. When it turns to about 80% sawdust, we change them out. That's about once a year in...

Should I change out deep litter bedding before winter? Because it could cause too much moisture?

The sun isn't out when they're in the coop unless the weather hampers letting them out. Plus, generally, commercial feed contains all of the vitamins they need in a day.
