advice for mink deterrent in winter

Most everywhere has laws protecting livestock and allowing the trapping of nuisance animals. Some places you might not even need a permit to protect your own animals. Here it's free permit if you have a hunting license you just have to apply for the nuisance animal permit. Other places you...

    ISO hen saddles

I made mine using a pattern I found online. Prolly went overboard but I used heavy canvas (think carhartt coat).

Where can I buy Midget White Turkey eggs or chicks ASAP?

Your gonna be stuck with west coast options right now. The other 2/3 of the nation is pretty much in a winter storm. I wouldn't trust any shipped chicks/eggs in the mail service right now.

Baked bricks for sub zero days! just a friendly tip from up North!

I'll stick to the stock tank heater in their waterer. I do freeze blocks of ice for them in the summer.

    Eggs in cold weather

Frozen but not busted are fine for baking or scrambled but I always try to move them to the front of the line and get rid of them. Busted or I just dont want to deal with them I turn into animal food. My dog, coons, and my chickens all like cooked eggs.

Feeding frozen eggs back to your birds?

I boil them and give them to my pet coons and my dog. I do it out in my shop on my wood stove in an old pan I don't care about getting messy. I've scrambled them (shell and all) before and gave the chickens before. Just easier to hard boil them and given them to the fury ones.

What to put on garage floor for temporary housing

Most hardware stores have cloth drop cloths in the painting section that is cheaper than cloth tarps. Old sheets would work also if you can come up with enough. I'd set out traps for minks if you are legal to do so. Sardines or any canned seafood is a good bait for mink.

Still making a mess with port feeders

i started out with 3 inch PVC ports but my rooster wasn't wanting to use it. I made a 2nd bucket with 4 inch and he uses it no issue. Only problem is going up to a 4 inch street elbow was almost double the 3 inch. Being an electrician I already had the hole saws but they are the way to go when...

Not usually a pest, but does anyone else have this problem?

Same here but my hives are about 100 yards away. The coop is between the hives and my garden and I know the bees head that way.

How long can chickens go without food?

We aint gonna see 10 foot. Down here in my 46 years the deepest snow I've ever seen was about 2 feet and thats an once or twice a lifetime thing. We don't get deep snow down here. It's mostly ice and they never are prepared for it. Power going out is a given, most of us bumpkins that have lived...

    Can chickens catch colds?

Yes they can. It's not uncommon for birds to stay in the coop when it's cold. Mine also do it when it hits over 100 degrees.

Snow Possibly Coming, How Should I Prepare?

Mine are locked in their covered run with 2 five gallon bucket feeders and 5 gallons of water with a heater in it that is set up on a timer to run 1 hour in the morning. With all that they can easily last a week without even being let out. They aint calling for snow here, just ice so be...
