I used Sketchup, the free version. I used it at Uni when I was studying Interior Architecture and it’s come a long way since then! It’s the best free, web based, CAD out there in my (somewhat limited) experience.

So there’s been progress! Firstly, I tested negative for Covid so my cough is just a standard winter cough. Phew! Secondly, I have been busy with my new power tools! While I love my circular saw I’m particularly enjoying my little electric nailer! So quick! So firstly I noticed some old...

I love these thank you! I’m def still looking for a name. I like the Cluster Flock, and my husband will love it, but I also love The Old Hennery, it just feels slow paced and old timey 😍

This is my plan! I'm just going to make a frame for the 'lid', aka the hinges roof, cover it with fine but strong mesh to stop little ratties sneaking in and screw the onduline to the top, leaving the corrugations open for added airflow. Job done ✅

This is a fantastic idea! I’ll put a divider in until they’ve settled. Thankyou Thanks everyone for sharing your thoughts - you guys are so helpful!

So I spoke to the British Hen Welfare Trust today to finish my registration for rehoming ex-commercial chickens and went through the set up I’m planning - they were tinned at the size of my planned coop and said that they go by 1sqft per bird - vastly different than the 4sqft everyone seems to...

There is actually one thing you guys might be able to help me with in the meantime if you’re game? I need a name for my coop/run. I’m really focussed on it being a retirement home so have a little think about any chicken retirement pins you can come up with - I’m drawing a blank at the moment...

Sorry for the lack of an update yesterday - I’ve developed a cough... so I’ve been tucked up in the warm instead of out digging. I think it’s just a cold as it’s eased a bit now but it was pretty bad on Saturday evening so I registered for a COVID test which is arriving today and I’m self...

It’s far too windy over here to be able to leave it gaping open all year round. I get that the ventilation needs to be open so that’s nice an high but permenantly open windows - or holes - lower down will make it really drafty here in the UK. Everything is drafty here...

We call a single sloped roof a pent roof. And one with two slopes that meet in the middle an apex 😃

Sadly T-111 isn’t a thing over here. The closest we have is plywood which isn’t great for exterior work unless you get marine ply (for boat repairs) but that is very expensive.

Oh it’s lovely! Thank you for sharing that with me 😊 I video called my dad about my plans yesterday because the structure itself priced up nice and cheap but the cladding was ridiculous! Certainly a budget breaker. I was pretty down about it and he was trying to help me find an alternative...

Thanks everyone! I think for the overhangs it will be easier to see just how much I need once the things actually built and in front of me. I just need to make sure I don’t build it too close to the fence...

So, 3KillerBs, I’ve changed the ventilation to your suggestion of having it in the sides but then forgot to put it on the front wall as well. I definitely want to get the most amount of ventilation I can, up high where it won’t be too draughty for them. I reckon I’ll just get some tarp or...

So here's an update on the coops design. It still needs some tweaks as #i think #i need to draw it in a bit to fit the footprint when roof overhangs are taken into consideration - it'll be in a corner that backs on to another property so I need to make sure that the roof (and the guttering)...

Newbie chick shed and WIR build

oh is it? Good to know, I thought a pitched roof was where two slips met in the middle at a point - doh! so the flashing was an idea back when the shed was only going to be half the width of the run l and the run roof that would go past the side of the shed roof would pour the water into...

so it’ll be a pent roof, flat with no pitch, but the back wall is 25cm lower than the front and the entire strip below the roof on front and back will be hardware cloth. I’ve not done the sides because when we get strong winds, that’s the direction they come into my garden from. The window will...
