Mottled Silkie with Blue/Green eggs Project.

Looks like it might be a silver partridge! Either way I wouldn't use it to continue on with the project!

They come in 5 different shapes (including bearded silkies and showgirls!), 5 different colors, and as small as 2" all the way up to 7"! They go just...

Mottled Silkie with Blue/Green eggs Project.

So sorry to here about your lost chicks!! How can you tell what color the chicks are in the eggs? That's neat! If you F2 generation is crossing the black siblings together, which I am assuming it is, then 75% of them will have straight feathers and only 25% will have silkie. Along the same...

    Storing Fertilized Eggs?

Following this for my own benefit! What I do, which I'm sure could be improved, is keep them in egg cartons on my kitchen counter. The house runs at about 70 degrees in the day and 68 degrees at night. I store them with the fat end up to lock the air cell in place. Last, because I have bantam...

Late Hatching Egg Viability and Genetics Question

I suppose dominate white is possible if there was a Paint somewhere further back? But I believe most white Silkies are recessive white only. I could be wrong though!

    breeding birds for my program

This is a super interesting thread!! Thanks to everyone who contributed! I have a related question, what are you looking for when you cull day olds and week olds? Anything besides the obvious "4 toes instead of 5" or "no middle toe feathering" I should be looking for?

Late Hatching Egg Viability and Genetics Question

I agree with what BullChick said! In response to the genetics question, based on the fact that you produced a white chick out of the cross I would assume that your black rooster is not truly black. He for sure carries a recessive white gene. And since you also produced a partridge I would say he...

ISO Bantam Mottled Cochin Hatching Eggs

Thankfully, I am not looking to show cochins! I am looking to start a mottled silkie project and cochins seemed like the best fit! And of course in the meantime, I could always use extra broodies! :clap

Mottled Silkie with Blue/Green eggs Project.

I would avoid it. You will already be having some issues with it popping up in your crossings with the black chicks so I would try to steer clear!

Anyone sell their chicks? I need opinions

I sell bearded Silkie chicks and they go for about $8. That being said though, they are purebred and from quality stock and not mixed colors. For you, it all depends on the market in your area. Crossbreed chicks here generally sell for about $2 to $3. A BJG as the father may increase your price...
