Hmmm, we have about an acre lot with lots of trees and bushes scatted everywhere so I think this could only really work over the open field parts that the girls are smart enough to stay away from. Something to consider though!
Today was a sad day. I came home on my lunch break to find my Sicilian buttercup beheaded in a cloud of feathers near our hedge :( head was bloody and looked like the crop was partially eaten, but no other injuries. She was still warm and I didn’t want her life to go to waste so I skinned her...
Sorry I didn’t see this earlier! We still haven’t got the roof on yet  but I really like how it turned out overall!
I used two layers of 4x4s for the base and 2x4s for the rest of the frame. The door still need some work (wonky construction lumber not fitting just right).
I also...
This is the Lavender now...he/she still has me stumped but I feel is looking less boy-ish.
(Face is redder than normal due to heat I think)
My buckeyes look way more masculine at this point and the lav’s comb hasn’t grown for some time.
Sunday was move-in day for the chicks! I still have some things to work on but I am happy with how things turned out.
(Ta-dah! You can see the beginnings of the run to the left)
(A decent ramp is on the to-do list. Not many chicks have ventured up to the roost yet)
(Re-did the window...
Thanks for the detailed analysis! It’s helpful to me when people point out exactly what characteristics they are seeing that makes them think one way or another. Consensus with this chick is an Olive egger (Meyer uses both cream legbars and wellsummers in their breeding program) so I will be...
I sure hope you’re wrong that “she” is a he. All my chicks were purchased sexed (2 male Buckeyes, the rest females), except four from the “adopt me” selection. Chick in question is one of those so it’s not impossible (especially since I know mistakes are made in sexing anyways). But my LO that I...
I had thought this girl was a wellsummer until a couple days ago when she started developing a crest. She is four weeks old today.
She came from Meyer so my options are cream legbar, olive egger, or lakeshore egger I think. Any thoughts? She’s one of my bravest and most personable chicks, I...
I wanted to see if someone can confirm the breed of one of my mystery chicks. She has feathered feet so I’m leaning towards the obvious blue Cochin, but she doesn’t quite look like the blue Cochin chicks I’ve seen. I know this could be because blue come in various shades? My only other real...
How are the meaties doing now? The Meyer fry pan intrigues me- and I have some extra boys that will go to freezer camp before winter this year so I am curious to see what kind of end weights you get!
