So I went out to check on the girls today and one was dead. I have idea how it died either. It didn't have any marks on it or anything. My mom said it looked like it had snot coming out of its nose (I was holding it by its feet at this point, already dead). Anyone know why a chicken would just...
So I have been getting about 8-10 eggs a day for sometimes now. Then all of a sudden I only had 5 one day, like 3-4 the next and only 1 today! I'm wondering if someone isn't stealing them or if I have a critter taking them. Is this usual that they would all just basically stop laying, at the...
I think its to early to tell with the Silkie, just from my experience. Forever I thought my black silkie was a girl until she started crowing! Now he is all boy acting and looking but it took a while.
Thanks for the replys. I am seriously thinking about it myself but not sure I could do the processing. I feed my dogs a raw diet and so I'm buying a crap load of chicken all the time and I have chickens out back that would do just fine, well not them but others I could get. I can't eat the ones...
OK so I'm wondering if any of you are able to kill and eat your birds? I want to be able to do so, but I don't know that I can. I dont know that I would have what it takes to know they would die eventually. Anyone else have this problem?
Who says chickens aren't smart!! I went to collect eggs today and they had hidden them!!! They laid them in the normal spot but they somehow covered them with a foot of hay! They don't like me taking them and Rocky (black silkie rooster) will follow you in the house and peck at your feet for...
The bird in the second picture, Jasper, is a Belt Jungle Fowl whatever that is... its my baby, so is the large black one in the first picture... both is supposed to be the same kind of bird. Would I be able to tell if one was a roo at 2 months? What would the difference be? 4 of them I bought on...
I guess they are more active! I had originally bought 12, 1 died (black silkie) and the rest are doing great on their 3rd day in their new home but at 1 to 2 days old they werent near as active as these 4! They are already fighting over food! I gave them a nice warm boiled egg right after...
Ok so... I have also become an addict! You just can't help it. My first batch of 11 went out into their coop 2 nights ago at 24 days old. The are LOVIN it. I go out there and sit with them though b/c I miss them soo!! So today the feed store got some of these adorable, can't help yourself afro...
My sweet hubby is outside as I type making my babies a nice home. We went to the local feed store and checked out the premade nesting boxes and they were 10x10x10... does that sound right? Is 10 inches enough for them to nest comfortably? My mom seems to think its to small so I thought I would...
OK can somebody tell me about this sandbox thing? Do they need one? Do they like them? And what is this stuff you put in the sand box that helps with mites? I've seen some mention Sevin ... is that Sevin dust, the stuff you put on plants to kill bugs? My neighbor has chickens too and he is...
My babies are 22 days old and they scratch themselves alot. Is that normal or should I worry about them having mites or something? They also spread their feathers (what feathers they have) any nibble on them. How would I know if its normal behavior or some sort of bug?
