That's a great question. I was wondering that myself. My 4 girls are in a dirt floor coop/run that I sparsely cover with shavings to help keep it clean. I clean out the shavings once a week and add fresh. They also have a sand/dirt bath pan in there that I am pretty sure they eat as well.

When I add more chicks to my flock they will be @ 6-8 months apart. Will that be too big of an age difference? I have 4 five week old pullets right now. I would like a flock of around 8 at some point, but don't want them all the same age so that they won't all stop laying @ the same time. My...
I got there at the tail end so I missed a lot of folks. Probably a good thing for me, as my chicken math radar was going off. There were a few that I REALLY wanted to take home, but I was told no new chicks until mine start to lay. I will definately be there at the start for the Fall one!

Here's Alice. The local feed store said she was an Ameraucana, but you never know
Alice- day I got her. I figure she is about a week old based on feathering.
First adventure outside- April 1, 2012. @ 2 weeks old
Alice @ 3 weeks old
Not sure of anyone is close, or interested, but there is a chickenstock on April 28th in Lincolnton NC.

It's finished, it's finished! Yahooooooo!
I still have a few little things here and there to tweak and adjust, but the roof is on, the roosts are up and the next boxes are in and level. We treated the wood with waterproofer, so I will have to wait a few days before I can put the girls...
