Thanks y'all for your responses! Good to know- he's an absolute sweetheart 💕
I don't plan to show him, as he was gotten as a companion bird. Though, even if I wanted to breed him, I'm not sure I could.... he's half the size of our silke! :lau
Hello y'all! I had picked up this little guy from a mixed bin of bantam chicks at TSC a few months back, and he is now 9wks old today and I have no idea what he's supposed to be! Someone had suggested that he'll turn out to be a BB red old English game and another a silver duckwing- problem is...
The louder bossy one might be a male, or he might not. Our Gussie was fairly docile when he was little lol. From what I've noticed, most stores sell Chinese brown geese as oopsed to African geese (though they might advertise the gosling as African). So far, from the slender necks I'd say they're...
They look to be either Chinese brown geese or African geese. I'm betting on the first one since they look a lot like my Gussie did at that age :)
As for gender... it's going to be a while before you can tell. Not unless you know how to vent sex 😬
I've primarily hatched quail chicks- and with each hatch I've had to assist at least once. It may be the fact that they're all so staggered that by the time I need to removed a fluffy chick, someone else may be hatching and gets shrinkwrapped.
All of the chicks I've assisted either die shortly...
Hello All!
We currently have 4 rooster boys that we're hoping to find a home for. These boys are not stock-pot material, but would make fantastic breeders! Somehow, we hit a lucky streak with these boys, as all 4 are very friendly, healthy and non aggressive despite having a few, brief...
Have you discussed dexamethazone injections with your veterinarian? It's a fairly strong steroid but it may help with the lesions and has the bonus of increasing appetite. It's worth a shot (no pun intended) and results would be seen a lot faster- usually within a couple days
Hello! Unfortunately, she passed away on Easter morning... I resorted to tube feeding, which did seem to help, but I think she may have just been too weak at that point. Wishing your lil chick the best!
Surprisingly, I've never had an issue with worms outside a nasty case of cocci a year ago. We keep the girls in a 20ft×8ft run with a 7ft×5ft coop that they never use except to lay lol. They're free ranged several times a week under supervision as we have hawks and coyotes in our area. We also...
I'm so sorry. Sounds like you're doing all that you can. Offer the little one some sugar water or nutridrench. Besides that, all you can do is keep in warm and show it love. I've had several chicks die in my hands and it's never easy, but my biggest comfort was knowing I did all I could and gave...
It's a very valid fear. And as some pointed out on this thread you can do everything you can to protect them and they'll still get sick. I've only had chickens for 3yrs and have done everything I can to ensure their safety and health (100% predator safe coop, avc in water, oregano, cayenne...
