There is no reason not to use the dog shampoo. When I had my goats, I used anything handy. However, if the kid is itchy, she probably has lice. Pick up some louse powder and dust her with it. Lice are notoriously hard to see.
Just a comment. Even if you intend to leave the kids on the mother it is a good idea to introduce them to a nipple right after they are born. That way if it later becomes necessary to bottle feed them you can do so. If you don't, some kids will starve themselves to death rather than accept a...
Nubians are dairy goats. They are raised for milk not meat. I am curious as to why you listed them as meat goats. When bottle raising baby goats do not use replacer. I can tell you from years of experience that plain old cow milk from the store works better than any replacer ever made...
I can't think of a thing. My goats would sometimes grab a mouthful of feathers off a passing chicken. I think it was for the same reason they tried to eat my hat. They thought it was fun.
I fed COB to my dairy goats. That is corn, oats, and barley. You can get it either with or without molasses. It is relatively low protein but that was not an issue for me because I fed very high protein alfalfa. If you do not have a catalog from Caprine Supply get one. It is chock full of good...
It looks like a fungus infection of some sort. I had a buck that was out in pasture come in almost bald. I gave him a good spray of BluKote. He looked pretty funny when I finished. How often do you have a purple buck? Anyway, I saw improvement in a very few days. Although there were several...
Unfortunately, I have had a fair amount of experience with tetanus. You are right about this kid probably not needing antitoxin because tetanus spores are found in the soil and since the area was cleaned before the band was applied, there would be no exposure.
The following is just an FYI. I...
No matter what get the antitoxin into him as soon as possible. When you go in to get the antitoxin, pick up a bottle of CD/T. You should vaccinate all of your goats with this. It protects against both tetanus and enterotoxemia. You will need to wait a while to give it to your wether. It may...
As a precautionary measure, you can start him on a course of penicillin. Clostridia, and tetanus is one, are susceptible to penicillin. If the area was clean when the band was applied, tetanus is unlikely, but I have lost animals to tetanus, and it is not fun.
CX are not heat tolerant. I ordered mine in the early spring so they would be processed before the heat hit and in the early fall after the worst of the heat had passed.
