We have a large ENCLOSED run with coops attached - a large one for my big girls and three roosters and a divided part of the run and separate coop for The Littles (bantam silkies, Mille Fleurs and one RIR who was picked on by the Bigs).
One of my silkies, Angel, who goes broody all the time...
This is always such a shock. I have had this happen a few times in the 20 years I have kept chickens. Sometimes you just find one that passes with no warning. I am so sorry for your loss.
Thank you! I am so pleased to have added them to our family. We had two others but wanted a white a black too. The black one (Chiquita) is particularly friendly.
We went to the Chattahoochee Valley Poultry Association Show this morning and decided to add these two cuties to our flock. Was hoping to add a Frizzled Coachin too but couldn't find any pullets for sale. But we are happy to welcome Angel and Chiquita!
Sheez I'm so sorry - it really is so sad. I couldn't believe it but Domino passed away as we'll. she has had health issues for a long time but it almost seems like after Derp died she just gave up. :(
Here is a photo of Domino with Derp in their private little coop and run. I let them out to free range each day and it seems to work well as a convalescent home. I have found a bantam frizzled coachin for sale locally that I can get as a roommate for Domino if need be. I have been looking for...
I can - I think my main concern is she will be picked on. The reason I moved her out to begin with is the feathers on her head and neck were all gone (she did not have mites or worms) so I wondered if her flock mates plucked them out...they grew back in fine when she lived with Derp. She a very...
Than you everyone for your nice thoughts. I am trying to decide about Derp's roommate right now. Domino is Sikver Laced Wyandotte and she is currently recovering from sour crop. I had the two of them in their own little coop to give them extra care. Dommie has also had some health issues -...
Darling Boofy - what a sweet photo. We share our grief together. Lots of people don't understand how you can love "just a chicken" so much. But they are so special. Take good care.
This was my darling little hen Derp. She was probably the ugliest chicken we've ever had, with her severe scissor beak and extra long neck. What she lacked in beauty, she made up with adorable and funny behavior. She followed me everywhere chattering all the while. I usually ended up carrying...
I would be happy to take her but we live in Georgia. If you can't find anyone else, we can discuss shipping her. I already have 4 Polish hens and a friendly flock of others. Hopefully you will find someone near you that can take her.
Best,
Janet
Thank you very much for your kind words. It means alot. So far everybody else seems to be doing just fine so I hope this was a random thing. Now if I can get my other girls to start laying again!
Janet
I wondered about this as one of my young hens who had just started laying was found dead in her coop this morning and no previous signs of illness. I am very sad about her death.
I am so sorry to hear this news. Chickens provide so much company and fun and hopefully you will be able to get back in the game before too awfully long. I am recently diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis and have other health situations too and sometimes it takes all I can to get out and feed...
