My son gleaned a field of some of its pumpkins left behind due to defects. Will take birds about a month to eat all that. They will still have free-choice access to a nutritionally complete feed.
Three broods advancing really well. First brood has stags representing three color patterns; dark-brown, spangled dark -brown, and spangled Wheaton. Third brood Wheaton or Wheaton / dark brown.
Two oldest 2024 stags of my shuffler line-A. They are so slow to put on color and mature but they do mature fairly large. I resetting another line by breeding in some of what are thought to be pure Peirce Shuffler. The F1 cross is also really slow to color up but seems to mature faster. They...
I'm about 15 years into my effort and seeing some limitation related to population size. I can support at most about 25 breeders over winter and that has dropped down to ten more than once. Ideally, multiple other persons with similar interest towards same goal would exchange birds with me as a...
I got some serial killer action on June Beetles where one stag is getting about all that come buzzing around yard. If they land they history. Way bigger than Japanese Beetles that not landing in my bushes or trees so far.
Drama causer designated Soccer Ball based on down coloration at hatch. Nice thing about the chicks is I can just walk out into yard and pick on up without chick trying to get away. Same chicks make general walking complex when trying not to step on them. Even broody hens being that way.
I can’t speak for Havoc, but I’m having an escapement issue with those otherwise wonderful cages. That get out as I approach to feed and water. The dogs and other chickens running at ground level do not help. Drama
The mommas are sisters my son raised to produce chicks that keep me busy while he suffers his aunt and grandma in Montana for the summer. This is payment for his doing bulk of care the rest of year.
First three are sisters. The first should hatch today or tomorrow. A fourth will be hatching in about a week. Eggs are already browning, then they keep tracking in clay from ground. Hatch still good so far.
Poor pic but what amounts to more (five) Aseel chicks. All but darkest are Wheaton. There dad is a stag, not a bullstag, so I’m surprised than chicks would come of the pairing. Chicks are now in a smaller safer pen. Darn snakes
