You were right. I changed the calibration, told the incubator that it was like 4 degrees cooler than what it said, and holy hell I it got up to 100 and 102. Bought a third thermometer to find out which one is actually the most accurate, plus the new one can sit outside so I don't have to open it...
Here is what mine says about changing the parameters for humidity alarm (incase you lost yours)
1:Press and hold "set" button for 3 seconds.
2:Press "+" or "-" button to select "AS".
3:Press "Set" button once.
4:Press "+" or "-" button to adjust the humidity alarm parameter.
5:Press "Set"...
Thanks hogwild, it does have the alarm which I like and dislike at the same time. The problem seems to be that there is too much space. I don't get the temp alarm because I'm sure its that temp at the top where the hot air rises. But when I put my thermometers down with the eggs, it's much...
It is this one right here.
After two hours of putting it in the Styrofoam and taping up two vent holes on top and the water hole, my digital says 97 and my bulb one looks like it is at 100. Hopefully the bulb is more accurate. I'm still a bit pissed. But if I can keep it hot enough through the...
If I can actually find a spare blanket, I'll do that. Just after posting I figured I could put something inside the incubator to raise the eggs up closer to the top, but I literally have nothing except for books I don't want destroy, and bricks that'll make it a pain in the ass to have to...
I put some eggs in my incubator yesterday at 6:30pm. I decided I'd better check the accuracy of the heat and put two thermometers in there towards the bottom where the eggs are. One is a bulb type thermos and the other is digital. Both were about 94/95. Since they're still so freshly put in, can...
Thanks! I am glad to hear that.
Interesting side note. My mother in law actually used my incubator a couple months ago. I told her how to use it from what I knew, 99 degrees, humidity 40-50%ish and rotate at least three times a day... I think she refilled the water reservoir once, and didn't...
It is this one here, it is manual turn. You can see that it's an octagon shape. I've been going left, middle, right, middle left etc. Then I read something about 90 degrees or something and wondered if I should skip the middle and just do the left and right leaning.
Okay, so it doesn't matter...
I have a brinsea incubator that can rest flat, or be turned to the left or right. When I turn my eggs am I supposed to be turning it, left, middle, right,
Middle, left etc, or should it be left, right, left, right etc?
A bit of a joke, they're opportunistic and will take whatever is easy. I should say through training and hunting I've built more confidence and skill in taking rabbits. The hawk likely could have returned right back to the chickens when I released it. But probably not.
This is true. We have to find a sponsor (a general or master falconer) to sign the paper work, pass a written test (154 questions in my state), pass a facility inspection and then be an apprentice for two years.
The "falconers better than rehabbers" was a bit of a tongue in cheek joke by the way.
I eventually released it. I do falconry, so I used him for a bit, got him to prefer rabbits :-P and released.
He wasn't too tangled up in the netting, I think it was just more stress and fear. I was able to grab him from there.
Yeah, roofing is better than netting, and netting is better than nothing. I just posted in the predator thread a red-tail I pulled out of a chicken coop that had netting. It still got in.
Crows enjoy mobbing hawks. :-\ hahah
Falconer here, without a pic it's hard to say. But if you're describing a large raptor that didn't flush when you were nearby, it was probably a red-tail. You said accipiter and you keep chickens so you're probably more familiar with raptors than the general public, so it's also possible you saw...
Oh, speaking of the fake owl thing, that gives me a better idea...
I think putting out fake Crows might be even better, since crows are little @#*$& to hawks. Pluss, fake crows are likely to bring in real crows (which I wouldnt mind as long as they leave my duckies alone, which they should...
