We have had cream leg bars for almost 3 years. This summer highest temp I recorded was 111 and last year 114. All the CLs made it through but lost a couple of Bielfelders. Every run has a kiddie pool in it with a couple of bricks and a couple of inches of water. Some have a "cabana" made out of...
Interesting. I have a few in the bator right now. Doing a fertility on check on Speckled Sussex/ Cream Legbar roo. With Speckled Sussex in the mix they could be plump little boys for the freezers
Currently I only have 2 hens. And have not successfully incubated any eggs from them. I was trying to breed them with a Bielefelder for better size and with better heat tolerance from the NN. I am considering getting a cockerel or some hatching eggs so I can get a roo. There are people on the...
Thank you. Still & no pain is my goal here. I am looking for the most humane method possible. I think I missed something though. Are you holding him by the feet or are you stretching him horizontally? how does the hook part stay in the beak?
We have used the cone method. It is not always easy getting the jugular cut correct. We have gone back to cleaver and chopping block and use the cone for bleeding for the time being.
LOL. Hello neighbor. Paulden area here. Electric countertop roaster?
Had a 9 month old JG who went aggressive on me. Was close to 8 lbs dressed out. After resting for 3 days and then in slow cooker for 8 hours, he was the best, tender rooster of the breeds we have tried. Even at that age...
I agree. We raised 10 Cornish Rocks this year and we will not be repeating the experience either. When they first went outside they had so much fun and were just like regular chicks until the time came that they could barely walk. I knew going in that would happen but seeing that every day was...
Hi all. This is a very timely thread for me. Glad it was posted as a feature otherwise I would not have found it. My broody hen hatched 2 chicks that are just 4 weeks old. Her first time and she did a good job. I was wondering how I was going to integrate just 2 chicks and thanks to this thread...
Thank you Caesar. This is an awesome post.
Sadly my best rooster (Cream Legbar) died from being pecked in the comb by hens while on the roost. I found him in the morning still clinging to the roost with his head still down, still dripping blood. But it was too late for him. The blood loss was...
Hello all. Just found your thread and read the first page and thought this seemed like a good place for me. Will go back and read more at beginning soon.
I have only ever assisted once and in a fairly minor way and have been prepared to assist twice when they pipped the wrong end, but they...
He will grow out of it once he realizes he is a big boy. I had a little guy like that too when I put him & his little girlfriend in with the big girls. It might take him a while but he'll get there.
