My birthday hatch is now 9 days old.
Chick 1: Silkie (It’s the oldest but I can’t yet determine the feather type)
Chick 2: Showgirl (with frizzle feathers)
chick 3: black Silkie (normal silkie feathers)
My birthday presents hatched!!!
#1 Showgirl
#2 plain silkie
#3 still an egg (It started later. I had a problem waiting to start incubation. The 1st 3 eggs after rooster integration went into incubator as soon as they were laid. LOL)
More to come next week. :jumpy
We have all sorts of weird bonding going on
Boo is a white orp who thinks she’s a turkey. She was raised by a bantam frizzle Cochin for 14 weeks with 7 poults. She’s still here and none of the hens dare bully her
My odd pullet trio = silver laced orp, Ameruacana (EE), and silkied serama. They...
Yes. Thank you. Bertha was the grand champion pullet at our county fair. She is impressive because of her size - and more growing yet to come. She’s going to be a huge hen.
I'm always amazed at how tiny quail are at hatch. Of course these are jumbo coturnix, so they'll be adults and laying in less than 2 months.
PS- If anyone wants quail, just send me a PM
Kids did well at state fair.
DD brought her paper quilling project. It was made of tiny paper rolls, coils, loops, and folds. This was her last year.
DS brought his computer programming project. He created and coded an original video game. He made his own pixel art and movement system. (All...
Can't believe how much my little boy has grown this year. I still see him playing with his chickens like this:

Still feeling the guilt and sadness from the loss of our beautiful MaiMai. We checked throughout the day but no luck. I carefully looked through the feathers left behind and noticed a little skin attached. Poor Xansie is not herself. She's not really eating (unless treats) nor "talking" Her...
Rough week for our family.
Father-in-law's funeral
My dad fell, was injured, and hospitalized for several days.
Had to find and move him into a good rehab facility for 2 weeks.
Must still care for my handicapped sister and work a part-time job
Kids procrastinated their 4-H projects - and the...
Tornado crossed our area but we’re fine. Minor power flickers is all we experienced tonight
Now last night’s flash tstorm was another story. A Pretty light show in distance but then the rains hit. Sheets of rain. Too much water too fast. It literally rained in our daughters room via her closet...
So far about 30 lbs. Won't come close to last year's all-time record.
We stopped picking around July 6, 2023 with 119 lbs. We just ran out of freezer space and left the rest on the tree.
The cicadas have killed some fruit bearing branches but there's plenty. The neighborhood kids like to...
