Define "safe"
That's quartz (the mineral), from the rock they are crushing. Its chemically essentially inert. Your chickens can eat it with no issues. Chances are very, very, very good they re doing so already when they peck at things on the ground. The chances of silica being present in...
Yes, found the cat's owner - "next door" neighbor, some 14A away. Surgery (not me, my wife, our children) repeatedly delayed, but went well. Won't be going thru any metal detectors in the near future, no plastic surgery (hopefully) required. Bad break, lots of new "hardware". Close family.
Nope. Work busting my butt (OK, I love what I do - but I have been putting in serious hours).
I had hoped to work on it this afternoon, but was trying to find the owner of a lost cat, and dealing w/ some family medical. (Nothing permanently bad, and what's serious is improving).
Picture in the AM. Got the Greenhouse re-framed in the correct direction this time. Need to put on 3 more 2x4x12s to provide additional attachment points for the walls, then do the whole thing again, for the next 12'. Tie the two halves together, then get more roof panels, and all the wall...
Hopefully this is the last 40* morn for a while. and that the rain holds off so I can finish the greenhouse.
at least I'm not playing in concrete at these temps.
I've been, yes, also Sherwood Forest Faire (smaller, more "personal", but with numerous overlapping artist talent) about a half dozen times, maybe more.
Similar here - looks like some of my ginger was too close to the edge of the protection, and took some leaf damage - and the bananas of course were going to take a hit as they do every year.
But better to find out now, with a relatively short double freeze, than to find out when we have a week+...
Looks like we are right about freezing. Should be able to start taking the visqueen down at lunch, going to have to water before this weekend, and thru next week. No rain in the two week forecast.
Weird weather.
Welcome to the meandering thread, glad to have you here!!! We moved back to Florida from the Austin area. Hope you find it insightful and entertaining - or at least a useful warning of things that can go wrong.
We broke records - colder than anticipated. Mid 20s. But already in the upswing, tonight will be warmer (barely) than projected yesterday. 32 instead of 30.
No plumbing damage. All the plants were covered (but not candled) - will know by Thursday if they took a hit. Ground was warm and...
Its beautiful. and absolutely NOT for me. My blood has become VERY thin as I age. (So has my heat tolerance - I was out sweating at 75 degrees yesterday).
27. Maybe 26. Depends on which weatherman we listen to. No precip expected. 0% chance of rain, next three days. If it frosts, it will be due to yesterday's rains - still plenty of moisture in the upper inches of soil.
Yeah, it is a little "exposed".
I'll finish wrapping it at lunch. We are only going sub freezing 10 hours or so today, maybe 4 hours tomorrow - so tarps plus flowing water, we'll be fine. Will have a more permanent solution by December. This shock cold snap caught me sideways.
My pressure tank sits in the middle of my field, next to a power drop. Last year, where the water comes up out of the well casing, and the water froze there at the check valve before it entered the pressure tank, and also froze at the outflow from the pressure tank (where my first faucet...
