    Problem Chicken

Yeah, that coop is way too small for 6 chickens. Especially 6 chickens that haven't been raised together since hatch. It would be like having to share a bedroom with your entire family, naturally conflict is bound to occur. Providing more space should help with the bullying and should be the...

    4 EEs Roos? Hens?

Agreed, these are both pullets. Their combs are not nearly large or red enough at 11 weeks to be cockerels and they have female specific coloring. Males would typically have darker breast feathers and more solid feather patches on their shoulders.

    hatchery RTL beak clipped.

I'm assuming RTL means Ready To Lay? Unfortunately, most hatcheries that offer started pullets raise them in confinement that doesn't really allow for enough room for the chicks to avoid each other. They trim the beaks so that the chickens can't do too much damage to each other in these crowded...

    Roosters or Hens?

Both look like cockerels to me. The first one is 100% for sure male. The second one I'm only slightly less certain of. The brown one in the background looks like an "ameraucana" (easter egger) and is definitely a pullet. Bielfelders have single combs and barring, so that rules that breed out

    Chick with crusty beak!

If it is nasal discharge I would be concerned about a respiratory infection, yes. Although, with that much I would really expect her to be acting off if it were nasal discharge/uri

    Chick with crusty beak!

It could be dried nasal discharge but it could also be just dirt. If she's otherwise acting normally I'd wipe it clean with a damp rag and just watch to see if it happens again.

    The Sullivan Six

Almost two months and I am finally 100% absolutely certain Marcille is blue! Her hackles look like they're going to be a little brassy, but she at least looks more red than gold.

    Most Unique Fowl Contest

Meet Artemis, our 7 week old Lisa Steele's Cookies and Cream from Meyer hatchery. This girl's got it all! Extra toes, feathered legs, a V-comb, muffs and a beard, the craziest bouffant of the flock, and nothing but elevator music in that little noggin. She is generally bad at being a chicken (I'm...

5 day old chick developed cross beak

I'm sorry to say, but euthanasia is probably your best option for her. Rehoming with someone who has experience with crossbeaks would be fine, but realistically finding that someone is like searching for a needle in a haystack. I've had two crossbeak chicks, both ameraucana based easter Eggers...

    Could be an appenzeller spitzhauben

    Possible color of my chicks?

Barring is a sex linked gene, it is only found on the Z chromosome (in birds, males are ZZ, females are ZW so the sex chromosomes are opposite of mammals). Barred rock roosters are lighter in color because they have two copies of the gene for barring which caused the white bands on their...

    Is this considered “barred”?

Thanks! She's 7 weeks old today (that picture is from this weekend).

    Is this considered “barred”?

I think you're right, cream legbar and BCM is a super common mix of breeds to get olive eggers. Barring can sometimes be more prominent on juvenile feathers, but your olive egger has pretty distinct barring that should stay. My olive Eggers barring is becoming more distinct as she gets older...

    The Sullivan Six

Had our first break out this morning. We're still working on the run, so our outside pen is just some chicken wire and step in fence posts (they are always supervised outside). I looked up and "hey! girls, why are you two on the wrong side of the fence?" Paprika and Bibu found a spot where the...

Lately Limu is reminding me of a roadrunner (her hackles are up because a scary little butterfly flew past)

    The Sullivan Six

Apparently I am friend shaped. Lady Amalthea flew up to perch on my shoulder, and sat on my hand for several minutes after I took her off. She's still one of our flightiest chicks. But apparently she's down to cuddle on her terms. We have all the support posts for run in place. Once they set we...

Is my 9 week old chicken actually a rooster?

The title of the post is "Is my 9 week old chicken actually a rooster" so the bird in question is 9 weeks old, regardless of what terms op uses in the post itself. Yes, chickens under one year of age are not technically considered hens or roosters, but that is not common knowledge for the...

Is my 9 week old chicken actually a rooster?

That is a suspiciously large and red comb for 9 weeks, especially compared to [what I'm assuming] the same age bird in the background. And in the last two pictures it looks like there may be some pointy saddle feathers, although it could also just be the angle. I wouldn't feel 100% confident...

First eggs from new Sapphire OEs

It's uncommon, but sometimes a hen will release two yolks either back to back or simultaneously and that can result in two separate eggs instead of a double yolker. Or the first egg can get caught up somewhere in the reproductive tract until the second one comes along and both get laid at the...
