My 1 year old rooster died today from an ongoing impacted crop that, besides my best efforts, wasn’t going down. I could feel some kind of pebbles inside of his crop that I could tell was the cause. This is unusual because our yard has absolutely no kind of pebbles or rocks that I know of. This...
I know this is quite an old thread I apologize. But would you say baytril or amoxicillin is better? Or would you say it’s about the same. This person seemed to have success with baytril so I may try that
Well I would not like to see her suffer. I started on amoxicillin, would it even be worth seeing a vet about this? And if it is too late what are some signs I should look for that it’s gone too far and is the end of her life? If it comes to that, I would get her euthanized but from her behavior...
I think so? Sometimes I’ll find the remains of the shell and it’s good and hard, I just toss the rest to the chickens so it doesn’t go to waste. It all started when she stepped on one of her eggs. I give them access to plenty of oyster shells for calcium so I feel like calcium deficiency is out...
16% layer feed and yes, always. I feel like that would work but the issue is I have no eggs from her because she just eats them immediately. She lays it, gets up, immediately eats. And she’ll only eat her own
My 3 year old hen picked up this terrible habit of immediately eating her egg after she’s laid it. Not only do I not have many eggs now because of her it’s also concerning because I’d like to monitor her egg health as she’s getting older. I’ve tried fake eggs and that hasn’t worked because she’s...
Either give it whole as someone else said or crush it up and sprinkle it over their favorite food, preferably some kind of wet food and mix it in so it’ll stick better. By mouth is always preferred but mixing into food won’t hurt either
You could clip her wings but you would have to ensure during molts that when they grow back it’s clipped immediately. I would not trim one just because I had a duck with one clipped wing who rode the wind to get over the fence with her one wing and was killed by two dogs.
But if your chicken...
I know how the condition works. I’m studying for poultry research in college. I was just following whatever my vet prescribed and I will not be getting a necropsy because it makes me uncomfortable and I’ve already buried my hen.
She had already been prescribed amoxicillin potassium before...
Thank you for everyone’s condolences. It means a lot to me. As well as the advice for calcium.
Here is a thread of some pictures of her if anyone is interested. It’s just a tribute to my chicken

I just wanted to make a tribute post to my beautiful baby Kerropi. I could not have asked for a better chicken and she loved me as much as I loved her. Every Halloween we went trick or treating and every day we’d go together to the bus stop to pick up my sister. Words cannot express how having...
Thank you for the responses. Unfortunately I had to put her down yesterday because she wasn’t responding to any treatments. I talked further with my vet about the two tumms and she said calcium was important for things like muscle contractions etc and egg peritonitis robs the body of calcium...
I heard reproductive issues are just higher in big productive breeds. But are reproductive issues just random? I’m still a little confused how it works, I know that when a chicken stops laying eggs usually high production the egg yolk builds up in their system and causes abdominal bloating. Will...
After getting my first chickens at 16 I didn’t know how bad later year health problems were. I’m 19 now and my chickens are old and having issues because of their breed (reproductive issues) and it hurts to see them this way and I never want to go through this again honestly
When I decide to...
Is there any thread for slow crop cures? Everyone keeps directing me to the one link for sour crop and impact crop cures but I can’t find anything about slow crop. Is it the same procedure?
