Her abdomen does seem enlarged behind her legs and her breast bone is more prominent than I’d like to see. Poops are almost nonexitent at this point since she hasn’t been eating but it looked like she may have had slight diarrhea. Reproductive disorder does sound like it could be a very high...
I have a hen exhibiting similar behavior. She’s too weak to even stand right now though drank a tiny bit yesterday and a tiny bit this morning. Hasn’t eaten anything since I found her acting weird yesterday morning. Hasn’t laid in a couple years, she’s 5 so we don’t hold it against her.
my huge 5yo buff Orpington hen, Eymma, was found yesterday morning looking very under the weather. I was able to assess her and get her to drink a little and she ate a few mealworms before shuffling off to lay under the coop where she stayed the rest of the day. Her comb is wilted and dark, she...
I have been away for 4 days and went out to see my flock this morning and do my crop check on Mindy. It's got another huge, hard impaction again. So she's back to being a house chicken for the day. I am withholding food and massaging. Now that we've been through it I'm hoping I can get it...
I have an 18month brown leghorn hen that is having some eye issues. Her left eye pupil is not working and dilating and there seems to be vision impairment in that eye only. She won't let people on her left side and seems to be looking at her world from just the right eye. There may or may not be...
This weather is just ridiculous! I have a BO that stayed inside for 2 months this winter because of a NASTY impacted crop. She lost so much weight I couldn't put her back outside until it warmed up again and now she's having to come inside for some of these really cold nights! I really hope it...
Thank you so much it was such a roller coaster ride, as you know first hand now! I was shocked with how much there was as well. The morning she passed the first huge chunk of hay I was so happy and relieved that the battle was over. But then I felt her crop and it was still just as big! That's...
Wow! Isn't it just so discouraging when life just keeps throwing you both curve balls?! I just kept telling myself to hit one at a time. It's so overwhelming and there were so many times I thought giving up was all that was left. But I love her SO much and just couldn't live with myself if I...
Mindy is OFFICIALLY reintegrated!!! It took forever! Luckily we have a small quarantine coop/run so she lived in that right next to the rest of the flock for a few weeks. They would free range around her while she dust bathed in her run (I gave her a big rubber feed bucket we use for the horses...
@moonlights keep us posted on your hatching endeavors this year! I have 4 brown leghorns that are amazing layers. They are annoying and I hope to never own leghorns again because of how flighty (quite literally) and skittish they are. They are fun to watch but interacting with them is not...
That sounds like she's moving in the right direction quickly! Let's keep our fingers crossed for an empty crop in the morning!! I think she will be normal in the morning, I hope I'm right!
Haha! Chicken ICU! I love it! That's a great idea to lay the newspaper down. Definitely don't give her anything solid until a few days after the crop is totally empty. Check it every morning before she eats so you can get a good idea of what its status is.

Bringing her inside will let you monitor exactly what is going into her system. I had to put towels down for Mindy in a crate because she would eat any type of bedding I put in there and it was adding to the problem. I have a feeling we will be seeing a lot of impacted crops in the next...
