Have you tried Claritin or Zyrtec? Zyrtec works pretty well for me. When I need additional coverage because of grass pollen Nasacort or Flonase work really well.
I didn't have ANY hatch on cinco de mayo! My first hatch was after midnight. Pretty sure my humidity was too high during incubation. Or it could have been my temperature being low too. I was also hatching very old eggs, up to 14 days old!
That is an extremely, EXTREMELY good hatch rate on shipped eggs!!!!
I've hatched I think 4 out of ~3 dozen eggs shipped? Granted the first dozen were packaged and shipped so horribly I didn't have much hope and none developed.
BBS Australorps are beautiful! It is part of the reason why I am raising blue egg laying birds that are BBS coloring like the Australorp. My first hen - the one in the first picture - is 1/4 Black Australorp, 1/2 White Leghorn, 1/4 BBS Ameraucana. She was hatched from an Austra-White egg. My...
Really enjoying seeing all the pictures of your hatches! Broody hens and all!
So far I only have ~4 external pips. No birds hatching yet. They seem a little behind compared to my usual hatch timing not sure why. U of A blues typically hatch almost a full day late though so maybe my...
Sorry I didn't see your posts till now! It doesn't really matter to me the set date or when other people are hatching I just wanted to hatch on Cinco de Mayo cause that was my very first hatch and this will likely be my last year my favorite chicken from that hatch 4 years ago has viable eggs...
It was day 10 I think? I cannot remember. They were very obviously infertile when I broke them open. They were perfectly clean eggs - the cleanest in the incubator as well and other than being flat from being warm looked just like any other eggs.
Congrats!
I just candled my eggs a few minutes ago. I had 2 infertile but the rest(26 of 28) appear to be developing normally. Interesting to me is my only eggs NOT developing were the cleanest and most fresh, having been laid the 14th and 15th of April. My rooster must have been slacking...
Good luck with the hatch! You can drink margaritas just before putting them into lockdown! :-)
I read about having cool off periods once a day can strengthen chicks - it is more like a natural broody. Now I don't worry so much about opening up the bator for a bit while candeling
My last egg...
Its basically a project hybrid I would say. It had the same goal I had when I started my own breeding project crossing Austra-whites with Ameraucanas of a prolific blue egg layer with BBS feathering so I decided to add it to my flock.
The bonus is the rooster I have is the quietest and most...
University of Arkansas Blue egg layer. There is some debate if the Whiting blue is similar or the same. It is project line of White Leghorn bred to Ameraucana then selected down for BBS feather coloring and homozygous blue egg genes. It's a light bodied productive blue egg layer.
Here are the eggs I have set:
Cockerel is a U of A Blue
13 brown eggs from an Amber Link, future Olive Egger.
12 white eggs from a nearly 4 year old production White Leghorn
3 blue eggs from "Grandma" a Leghorn/Australorp/Ameraucana cross hen
