Nice!
The TSCs around here only seem to get lights as well. Two years ago I got some buff Brahma pullets from two different TSCs. Ever since I have been looking for a male. They will often get straight run Brahmas, but not usually buffs. So this year I finally ordered cockerels (and more...
I love to look at the chicks at TSC. But since my population is always pushing it’s limit, I only get tempted if they have something awesome and unique. A long time ago they used to get neat breeds like Barnevelders, Partridge Penedesencas and Russian Orloffs. Now all I ever see is the same old...
Thanks! In 2019, TSC came out with a couple of prefab coops that were labeled as “better quality wood”. They were a LOT more money than the regular balsa wood prefab types. But they did look like nicer quality. And they didn’t come pre-primed. All over the box it warned you that you had to paint...
So the geese have been very prolific this year! (And turkeys. I hatched about a hundred turkeys and then got tired of that, so I sold off all my adults. I may keep a handful of poults that I’m interested in seeing how their colors turn out.)
But with the geese, I think the secret to getting...
No need to apologize, it was an interesting read! So glad your intro to the chicken life has gone so well. You got any pictures?
I took photos for my CL ads recently. Let me check if any of them are worth posting here.
I sell mostly on Craigslist and a little bit from cards posted on the bulletin board at TSC. I don’t do FB unless I’m desperate for a breed I can’t find on CL.
I would say CL customers run the gamut from pet-type suburban buyers to country farm people to ethnic buyers who do not farm but prefer...
I don’t know. There is a guy from Kentucky who has a wedding to go to in my town and he’s hoping to buy whatever I have available on Thursday. That’s the next expected hatch date, so if he comes and goes before those hatch, then maybe.
I have two more batches in the incubator and then I’m...
Turkeys and goslings hatched this week!
There are yellow goslings too, but I didn’t put them in this photo because the yellow ones are not going on Craigslist.
How exciting! Nice that you can get back into your chickens!
I have Russian Orloffs. Mine are just hatchery from Rural King last year. Only pullets. Ironically, I had a Russian Orloff rooster that I hung onto for several years and finally decided to sell him last spring. A couple months later...
Sorry, I don’t keep ducks anymore. The Chinese geese are the only waterfowl I have. (Not planning to sell any of their eggs.)
Geese don’t seem to lay long enough for me to get sick of hatching them out. But who knows? This is the first year that I’ve had two geese laying.
Well, I put a “test” price on this batch and they got sold quickly. The next batch is going to be $5 higher.
You don’t make money selling poultry, but I’d like to be as least in the red as possible.
Thanks!
Well these 6 got snapped up fast. I should have more around the 22nd. I’m planning to keep any white ones and just sell the brown ones from that hatch.
My first hatch of the year!
White and brown (mixed) Chinese goslings. (Both of my mothers are white, so the brown ones have to be mixed.)
There are actually 6. The last two white ones are still drying in the hatcher.
All 6 of these will be going on Craigslist if anyone is interested...
I did not.
I can’t believe it hasn’t even been two weeks yet. I found a pair of white Chinese down in Greensburg and went to get them on a lovely Sunday afternoon. They will be one year old this spring, and they originally came from Murray MacMurray.
I named them Salamander and Liz. (Short...
I got goose eggs! :celebrate
Two on Wednesday, one yesterday and one (so far) today. I have 3 females, so I don’t know whether they all 3 decided to start laying at once, or more likely one (or two) of them have a “beginning laying” glitch going on. Because normally I don’t expect geese to lay...
