Here's an update of my scovy babies! Not so Lucky is the one in the pool. And at the back in group pic. I'm convinced I have 5 drakes. They have legs for miles with big flippers. Not so Lucky still walks funny, but she's a zoomer when she wants to be.
My big 5 are off to a new home this afternoon. Was a very hard decision to come to, but I am limited to my flock size so I've opted for the 2 more productive breeds. I still get to enjoy the 6 babies but. They are the funniest ducks I've ever known, and so friendly! Always under foot.
I think this is why I find a mass kill more appealing, you shuffle them all around alot that you don't know exactly what bird it is. I find when I know exactly what animal it was I have aversions to meat. Humans are the only predators that feed and nurture their prey before they eat it. I think...
I circled it. The black dot, is on both sides wasn't there as hatchling. Asking if he will be coloured, and his caruncles will have some colouring? I think Daffy is his mummy but her caruncles are all white
So, I've only just realised the pics are blurry (sorry) but you can still see what I'm talking about. I noticed this afternoon this big boy has a spot on each side of his beak just above it where the carnucles are forming. Do you think this means he'll get colour later? He does have a greenish...
Okay lovelies, I have head scratcher question for you! With the 6 babies, my husband pointed out last night, 2 have "pink" legs and 4 have "yellow". By this I mean, the pink ones are just pinker than the others. Do you think this has to do with parents colouring?
Hatch update: here's my rescue baby. I ended up having to take the eggs back off Rose. I don't know if she attempted to eat the eggs, or crushed them with her big feet. One sadly only got a chance to pip, on further inspection discovered it infested with maggots :sick. It's going to be a bad...
They're sensitive souls aren't they? I'm finding Winnonas only broody until the wind changes direction and then she quits. Today is the 3rd time she attempted to go broody this month, and by far the shortest. Her spot wasn't weather proof so I propped a box over her. WELL she got quite huffy and...
Guys!! My eggs are hatching this week! I gave the iffy ones to Rose, because she's been sitting on the most beautiful empty feather nest for a week, only leaving it to snap at my toes. She looked so pleased I think she'll give me a head start before she charges me down next time. I also attached...
