Yes, I want them to sleep in the coop, but they are terrified of the older hens (and rightfully so as one of my older girls likes to charge at the younger ones).
We were thinking of setting up the dog crate in the run. Another option we have is to create an enclosed area right underneath the coop (which is raised off the ground 3 feet or so).
Hi all -
I need some advice on integrating our four pullets (two months old) with our existing flock of two older hens (4 years old). The pullets co-mingle with the older hens (sort of anyway) in their protected enclosures which consist of two large runs that are connected by a tunnel. They...
Oh no, I'm so sorry 😢. I have two chickens remaining that I bought from her in 2020. So far they are both still healthy. One doesn't lay anymore and the other one started laying again almost everyday...she's four years old so that's pretty impressive I think.
I recently bought four baby chicks...
No, unfortunately it did not. She passed away during the night 😢 She never did walk again that day. She was worse in the evening...she wouldn't even open her eyes and her comb was getting darker. I knew she would pass overnight and sadly she did. We suspect she may have had some tumors. She had...
We have four one week old baby chicks. One of them cries frequently to get picked up. At first I thought there might be an issue, but all of her needs are met. The other chicks don't cry like that. As soon as we pick her up, she stops. She loves to be held and will fall asleep on you. Clearly...
That's what I had them on...puppy pads. But we thought that maybe today would be a good day to switch to shavings. Seeing them peck the shavings and possibly eating them was stressing me out too much so we just took the shavings back out 🤦♀️. I just don't know the best time to make the switch...
We just picked up five baby chicks yesterday. They were born on April 9th so they are 3 days old. We put pine shavings in their brooder today and they keep pecking at the shavings. I'm afraid of them eating it and want to remove the shavings.
Did I put the shavings in too early?? Will it cause...
I don't know for sure, but someone mentioned that tumors can cause digestive/crop issues. Perhaps she had tumors that pressed on her nerves that stopped her from walking.
She passed away last night 😢 I did feel her abdomen and it wasn't particularly swollen. My gut tells me she probably did have some tumors which caused the sour crop.
My 4 year old barred had sour crop just last week (for the second time). We were on the mend (yesterday she was acting almost completely normal) then this morning she is unable to walk, has stopped eating and drinking.
Can a bad case of sour crop cause a chicken to be unable to walk or stand...
My 4 year old barred rock is making gurgling noises and can't really move. She had a crop issue this last week that we thought we cleared up. Her comb is looking dark and her eyes are closed. What can we do to help her?
