My dark one did the same thing and it threw me off. My lighter one hasn’t changed like this. Someone said that as they approach egg laying age their combs darken.
Hi!
I’m fairly certain they’re a pullet based on feather pattern but over the last week they’ve started developing a much larger comb and wattles. She’s about 17 weeks old.
We got them at Wilco so I don’t know the hatchery.
We’ve named her Chip 🙂
This is the food I feed. I prefer organic, non gmo. I’ve found that if I don’t fill my 5 gal bucket all the way it helps. The powder and crumbles is all the good stuff so about once or twice a week I dump the remaining amount into another bucket and use that to ferment. So I’m not wasting any of...
I had some strawberries in the freezer from last year and a browning banana. It’s hit 80 here a couple times so I blended them up, froze them into ice cubes and gave them to my girls to help cool off. They seemed to love them.
Yes that’s what it is. To close it up when needed. I think they assume I’ve got treats so they act like they haven’t ate anything. I’ve had a bowl available. I think they’re eating out of the bowl because it’s convenient. I had it because the littlest chick hadn’t ate out of the new container...
Thank you for looking! I’m going to dump the food out and try making the whole bigger later today. Kind of defeats the point of buying these because they have a slide to close the hole but they need to be able to eat.
Hi all! I have 5&6 week old chicks and switched them over to a bucket feeder with these attached about a week ago. I have it at chest height for our smallest bird. I followed the directions on the package for attaching these to the bucket but it feels like the holes are just so small. Has anyone...
I use the scratch and peck and really like it. It’s made locally so I can get it at my local mom & pop pet store rather than a big box store. Which is important for me. Plus they have coupons attached to the bags. The only downside is I don’t think they have a non layer feed. If that’s a concern.
Finished (almost) coop. We’re working on the attached run now. We have fairly limited carpentry skills and I should’ve bought a plan, but I didn’t want a tiny coop and thought I’d give designing and building a go.
We live in an industrial city with lots of raccoons and cats so we decided to...
We did the same thing! I had to raise the plate for the bigger ladies. They had stopped using it but then I found them all under it once it was raised. They’re 3.5 and 2.5ish weeks now. The cardboard helps keep the shavings inside and I had wrap around to keep the heat in since they’re in the...
