She gave me a scare earlier, acting like she had another stuck soft-shelled egg. After a while she calmed down though, and she’s eating, drinking, preening… all the normal things!
I think she’s doing better, thank you so much for checking in on her! :hugs
3 today, from Juin and Août.
Yep, Août laid two for us, a banded and a soft-shelled egg. We’ve been up way past their bedtime trying to help her to push that last egg out, but she succeeded, and now we can all sleep easy :)
Thank you, she was only 3 days old. She was a “failure to thrive”. I hand fed her egg yolk slurry and nutri-drench, but it seemed like she couldn’t gain any nutrients or calories from them, and soon she started sleeping all the time until she just never woke up.
She was so cute, a little Splash...

The hens are struggling through this heatwave we’re having, and it’s only going to get worse over the next week. We’re making them a temporary pen in my husband’s shop, so they can stay cool through the heat of the day, hopefully.

One of my little chicks, Ichi, is not doing well. Spent the day trying to get her to eat, with not much success.
Edit: Ichi passed away overnight. She was such a sweet little one, I’ll miss her.
All 3 today!
Juillet laid overnight again and gave me another two toned egg. I noticed that she has bumblefoot. This is my first time dealing with it, so if anyone can give me advice on this thread I made, that would be wonderful!
On a positive note, my three girls are hens as of today! To...
2 today, from Juin and Juillet :)
It’s finally hatch day for the four chicks I ordered! I’m so excited! :wee
Cross your fingers for me that they arrive safe and healthy!
2 today, from Juin and Juillet.
Another shared nest box moment, but I ended up pulling Juin out when Juillet stood up to show me triumphantly that she had stolen Juin’s egg to sit on. Juillet would not stop pecking her, not enough to draw blood, but enough to make her squeak in protest, and...
3 today :)
Juin and Juillet were both in the favored nest box together, like a good big and little sister. It’s nice to see them sharing, but I imagine little Juin was having to sit very still and squinty in order to not get pecked by giant Juillet, who really hates when others invade her...
3 today!
I’m fairly certain yesterday’s egg was actually Août’s, because Juillet laid hers from the roost bar this morning and cracked the bottom of it. I fed it back to them as scrambled eggs :)
2 today, from Juin and Juillet.
I’m hating this humid, summer-like weather we’ve been getting lately. I think the girls very much concur, but at least they appreciate the daily frozen treats of peas, corn and the occaisonal chunk of cantaloupe. I just wish spring could stay spring a bit longer.
