Here are a couple that I came up with after a bit of searching:

Does their brooder have a warm end and a cool end? 48 is way too hot for them, and that could easily be killing them if they don't have a cool end to retreat to. You want the temp to be closer to 36 at the warm end.
Their diet won't kill them right away, but it certainly isn't going to help...
First of all, :welcome

Remember that cheeky blue jay that I mentioned a while back? The egg stealer? It has been coming by pretty regularly during my chore time in hopes of stealing eggs. I usually try to chase it out, and have taken to covering my egg basket, but the thing still tries and occasionally succeeds...
I'm not 100% sure, but if you mix fee with another colour, you usually end up with a washed out version of the colour (one copy of the fee gene rather than two), but there could be a lot of variation depending on what other genes each bird is carrying.
You can definitely get bigger birds. I...
I had a hen that I was going to "retire." She was about two years old. I brought her into the kitchen when the power went out. I had a small hatch (about a dozen) one day old chicks that now didn't have a heat source, so I put this hen in with them. She kind of flattened out and lifted her...
I would be inclined to think rat over cat. Cats would leave the feathers and maybe the feet and eat everything else. A rat would hollow out the insides.
Can you give us a better description? Pictures of the injuries and their home?
How much space do they have?
How many males? How many females?
Do they have hiding places?
I visited the Tule Lake Segregation Center today. This was where all of the "disloyal" Japanese Americans were sent during WWII.
By "disloyal" they meant anyone who answered "No" to either of the following two questions on a 33 question form.

5'6" is plenty tall enough to keep the birds from hitting their heads. They're not going to get that high without a lot more space to go sideways. This sounds like a good place for your adults.
The growout area needs to be either shorter or taller, and since you said you can only go shorter...
I might be unabsorbed yolk. It also might be something wrong where the abdomen didn't close up completely. Keep an eye on it. If it's yolk, then it will go away in less than a day.
