I know that dish soap and water will kill many bugs. It clogs their air tubes and suffocates them

Had a nasty mite infestation in 1 of the 5 silkie houses. So weird no sign in the pens on either side. Everyone is getting ivermectin tonight. Dawn Powerwash will absolutely kill mites when sprayed on them. There was a lot and I didn't have anything else I could think of except maybe the...

    Silkies - They’re simply SPECTACULAR!

Tried 9 different broodies and only one wanted to take them right away. Still had 5 more I could have tried. Normally it's fine if I put them under in the morning. It's afternoon. Worst came to worst, I'd have set up the brooder plate and a box for them inside. This hen is about 3 years old...

    Silkies - They’re simply SPECTACULAR!

Well I'm disappointed with my male rooster I kept in the one pen. He's a recessive white carrier. I've tried to eliminate it over the years but one pops every now and then. No blame on the hen the egg is from. She's white so I knew the chick would be a carrier. It hatched white.

    Silkies - They’re simply SPECTACULAR!

Well out of 5 eggs, one was a no start. One died at day 14 or so it looks. Hens fighting over eggs and chicks killed one. One followed a non-broody out of the house and only its yelling saved it because I had to lay down to grab it from underneath. Last eggs looks like it will hatch tomorrow...

    Silkies - They’re simply SPECTACULAR!

I am not rural here, even though I live in the country. Our place designated zip code has 35,000 population. It's not a town. If it ever incorporates, we'll probably be separated off because we are not in the urban growth area. We're unincorporated county. There are 17 post offices within 15...

They will check here. It's on the forms they require at all the local post offices. Some states are much more strict. Mine definitely is. I know enough people who have shipped. They get testy about type of bird shipping boxes here as well. Only certain ones allowed.

    Silkies - They’re simply SPECTACULAR!

Silkies are often picked on because they can't see their attackers. They absolutely must be kept in from the rain because the will stand out in it and get soak. They learn to wet their crests so they can see better. Hence the standing in the rain. They will dunk their heads in water for the...

Swinging cage with wire bottom. Need the airflow under their skirts constantly. Or you could make a nice new nest in a place far away from their coop and move her to take care of chicks. That's a surefire way to break some of mine. They get so upset at being moved.

You can sort of see partridge markings in full sun. She's off even from the bleached out old ladies who are a lighter partridge. That's very red for a partridge. She does have fairly decent conformation, though.
