Mandarin Duck thread ( for posting pictures and discussing)

Hm. Chances are that you read information from people who don't know what they are talking about. Mandarins and wood ducks and the two general starter birds because of how easy they are. Ergo how popular they are. I just sold a pair to a zoo in Utah. I would take the ducklings out. That's always...

Put tin all around the bottom of the pen that will help keep out predators. Evergreens and bamboo are two good ones. Don't put artificial grass in there the birds will try to eat in and that's not good for them. Hope you have good luck with them!! :)

    Looking for waterfowl

Mandarin eggs can't be found on eBay at about 60$ for just two eggs. It's not worth it. Maybe if you have an rcom incubator but even if you do it's still not worth it. Ornamental ducklings are not sold. Universal rule kinda.

What books and publications are useful to learn about Ornamentals and Exotic fowl?

The size of the domestic fowl have nothing to do with it. Domestics birds all carry certain illnesses that wildfowl are not immune to. Call ducks have been known to be housed with domestics but not without major problems. I just got back from Pinola and got a lot of one on one with Jakob. Trust...

What books and publications are useful to learn about Ornamentals and Exotic fowl?

Yeah that's what I meant by exotics. Pheasants included. The only exotics that Ik off that can be housed with domestics are tinamous but it's still not advised
