That's great! I'm hoping so!
She's such a good dog too. I've only had her around the ducks for a week and she is already settling down with them well. When they came for her bone she just picked it up and moved away 😁
So last fall I found I have 3 racoons living under the trailer across the street from us. I had the surprise of seeing them cross the road to their home early one morning.
I talked to my neighbor who owns the place (but no one lives there) and he is a big softy when it comes to racoons and...
She is doing well, feisty as ever. She is getting picked on by the flock, evidently they didn't like her getting to go on an adventure and they having to stay home LOL.
Fortunately I have one female who gets along well with her and I have been keeping the two of them together during the day and...
YAY! Miracles! Lily is home!
Someone contacted me late this afternoon saying they had my duck. She was hanging around the outside of a commercial building about a half mile from here. She's been gone 8 days. She's doing really well, no sign of frostbite, no sign of harm. She definitely lost a...
I hope so too! The closest water of any kind that I can find on Google maps is Hayden Lake 2+ miles away. Almost the entire lake is surrounded by private residences. If by some chance she made it all the way there I will just have to pray someone notices her. I've posted on Craigslist and...
Nothing yet. I'm praying she comes home today or tomorrow, we are expecting negative temps starting Sunday night. Worried for her. She is my plumpest girl just not sure how long she can go with little food and water and then extreme cold which Muscovies hate.
I know there are many backyard chickens and ducks in the area. The ones that I know of are on the lookout for her. I have posted in local lost and found on Craigslist and Facebook. But she is so flighty, I almost feel she will just need to decide to come home on her own. Of course if she gets...
Lily has not come home yet. I spent an hour this morning walking the area and paying close attention to fields with bushes and trees she might be attracted to and hide under.
I took my phone with me to the place I saw her yesterday and played a video I have of all my ducks making lots of Myscovy...
Wow everyone, thanks for all the replies and encouragement. I'm very hopeful she will return.
She is a bit of the odd duck out, never quite found her place in the flock.
Today I shoveled out a patch of snow down to the grass about 12x30 in our backyard. I filled the area with several black tubs...
So I pulled a stupid and when I clipped my girls' wings after molting I only clipped a few feathers. I thought I would clip more if I thought they might get out of our yard. Every morning they fly 100 feet or so to where the food is and the rest of the time they are just content to waddle...
I had heard that it was good for feathers so thought I'd give it a try. Last year I had troubles with my girls getting in the water and then freezing up. I had to bring them in to warm them up and dry them off. I didn't give them bathing water when it was super cold, but they still found a way...
Holding ducklings is the best! These little ones would snuggle right in. Now they are almost grown and if I so much as reach a hand out to touch them they jump away. But I still love them ❤
My drake is about the same age. 4 1/2 months old. He is also chasing the girls around and pinning them. I think it's just part of the natural maturing and figuring things out. I don't expect him to actually mate with them until he is 6 months old.
Sharing in hopes it will help someone else. Last year at the end of summer I got a small flock of Muscovy ducks. Those of you who own Muscovies know that they are not as waterproof as other birds. My flock was mixed some were from one farm and had more of the domesticated colors and some were...
I hear ya. My drake lost his entire tail and damaged many flight feathers fighting with his brother before his brother was rehomed. I had to pin him down and pluck all the broken tail feathers out so he could start growing a new tail. I'm so eager for him to molt because right now he looks...
So unfortunately I ended up with 2 girls and 4 boys in my brood of ducklings.
I have decided to keep one of the males and get rid of the other 3 and my drake (their father). Trouble is that I have listed them on Craigslist and have continued to lower the price down to practically nothing and...
