TY carlsaSC! I made the sign on plywood and even though the top coat says non-yellowing the white paint is, indeed, yellowing. Also, all of the rain we get here is getting into the plywood (even though the edges were coated too,) and it's starting to deteriorate. We've loved the sign but now...
Thank you all for your kind words! We loved every aspect of the process and continue to tweak things as need or desires change! Thank you again for reading and sharing your thoughts!
The baby chicks are definitely mixed breeds with the mommas being bred by a barnyard rooster. I hope they are all pullets! yes, our rooster has quite the comb; my husband refers to him as the Keloggs rooster referring to him looking like the roo on the Kelloggs cereal box and the old...
Oh, ok. It couldn't be hers because she was chicken jail at the time for pecking another hen while rooster was breeding her. Our poor little Lola dies from that head injury.
Both of my buff Orphingtons are big chickens with heavy legs, so I don't know. I'm really hoping they're all pullets because I'm afraid two roosters would fight.
Well, as new chicken keepers we know pretty much nothing on identifying breeds and sex. We bought our first round of hens and our rooster as young adults. In late summer we let our broody hen sit on four eggs and she hatched three of them. We are pretty sure our rooster is a barnyard mutt. Here...
@Theegoliath, your coop is fantastic and your daughter/helper is precious! What memories you and your wife are making with her! Congrats to everyone! We all put a labor of love for chickens into our projects! To me...that's living!
The extended run works great, except I wish we had used hardware cloth instead of chicken wire at least on the bottom half as we had a rattlesnake get inside the coop last August! Scared me to death. I now own snake boots and keep a shovel by the door!
Vehve, you did a fabulous job! We copied several designs to build ours. I think we are going to make some aesthetic changes to ours next spring though to give it a more country feel.
Lol, vehve, indeed! I have really enjoyed all of the different coop designs and the construction stories. There is one common thread...we all love our chickens!
