Apologies if this has been addressed already, but what do you all do with spent lime water? It does not seem like it would be good to pour it down the sink.
Do the regular RFID dog feeders not work for you? If you are concerned about it being exposed to the weather, you could put a roof over it?
I have been considering something like this to keep wild turkeys out of my feeders, but I don't like the dispenser shape. If I were to do it for my...
Agree 100%. What do you do with glossy junk mail, magazines, etc? Those are the only "paper" items that go into my recycle bin, but I wonder if I could burn them instead.
You live in a state that banned disposable bags, so you have to bring your own bags to the grocery store... right? Hang on to those paper bags, those things are priceless!
This is the other brand I sometimes use. It also contains garlic:
It seems to be a common ingredient in locally milled feeds (this is Patriot Poultry)
what brand do you use?
By happenstance, I was refilling some feeders and couldn't help but notice the ingredients on this turkey food label:
(That said, my chickens and turkeys don't touch onions either. They do eat/destroy my garlic every year, which reminds me, I need to buy new bulbs now)
When my turkey had an infection like that, I treated it with antibiotics (enrofloxacin), following the instructions here: https://poultrydvm.com/drugs/enrofloxacin
There were other turkeys who did not look quite so severe, and recovered without treatment.
One of my turkey hens has been yelping and wandering. There used to be a group of wild toms that frequented my yard, but they have not been around lately. I suspect that my hen is looking for those guys. Yesterday she went missing, and I finally found her yelping deep in the woods.
Now I have...
That's fine, people can choose whom they would like to trust.
Personally, I like to see measured quantities because my chickens and turkeys eat all sorts of stuff that would probably kill them in large enough doses.
Uhm. Is this how you feel about all scientific research?
So, the first four references in the link I posted above measured blood profiles during their studies. Eg. In the second link, they found decreasing red blood cell count after adding 5-15g/kg of garlic to their feed.
(Anemia = low red...
Are magpies predators? I thought they were scavengers. I don't think they would actually hurt an adult chicken.
The crows and ravens don't really protect chickens, but they will attack hawks and other raptors in their territory.
This wild turkey has a different color than the others, and is noticeably smaller. Normal wild-type variation, or did someone's domestic tom fraternize with the locals?
I have an inquisitive nature. I want to understand why alliums are listed as toxic, before taking the label at face value. Do you consider poultrydvm to be a veterinary site? https://poultrydvm.com/supplement/garlic
Some of the claims do seem bogus, but they are apparently based on...
I tried to track down the source for this claim, but could not find any studies that demonstrate toxicity. I did find this excerpt in Gail Damerow's Chicken Health Handbook:
