The 6 chicks I kept from my first hatch are called Snowball, Bluebell chick, Sugar, Bessie, Spunky and Walter. I kept Walter as he as a deformity after getting stuck in his egg. When Snowball hatched she was meant to be sex linked but she was white so I thought she was gonna be a boy so I named...
Thanks for your reply I will check out those links, the hens don't mind it that much the ducks are bored but they have a dish if water to play in so they're happy enough I will be buying different sorts of greens for them and I'm installing a fan in the coop to circulate air.
Hi, bird flu has been a big issue in ireland and as of next Monday I have to keep my birds in or away from wild birds. I would be able to bring my birds into my shed as their houses are too small to house them all day. That would be fine to do but what should I do with my ducks and geese, they...
Thankfully my chicks are fine now, never been better and growing huge. Unfortunately it was 3 out of my 4 salmon faverolles that died, they are such a lovely breed and were so hard to get.
I wormed them as I have never wormed them ever, yes I will check Olivia's crop this morning. Last year Olivia did have sour crop, yes I could bring Olivia's body if she does die to a lab. I her crop was empty this morning. When I let her out she was sneezing a couple times and has mucus around...
Hi, most of my flock are molting they were fine one morning and when I got back from work they were balding! They are feeling very pitiful, I started giving them growers pellets and suet balls aswell as layers pellets. Last week my cream legbar cross hen Lavender was sick I didn't know what was...
Hi, this is Hennefir, she was supposed to be a silkie pullet, but now I'm not so sure what she is. She gives off rooster vibes. I'm guessing she's around 19 weeks old She doesn't fight with my cockerell Sesame, and sounds like a pullet but her tail and feathers around her neck makes me...
I would put a good layer of woodchips down on the ground if you are worried if there could be something in the ground. Once you routinely medicate them and they have enough space, they should be fine.
When I picked her up this morning her crop felt like putty, when I gently squished it it stayed in the same shape. The lumpy things were still there. She drank some electrolytes, I think it's impacted crop? What should I do to get rid of it?
Hi, I have a cream legbar x hen that has been very lethargic for the past few days. She has been eating and drinking. Yesterday, I picked her up and felt 2 semi-circular lumps in her crop, and her crop was a bit swollen. She doesn't have a sour crop, there was no sour smell. I don't really know...
It would be nice to hatch chicks under a peahen, but what if I'm waiting for her to sit on the eggs and if she doesn't then all those eggs could be too old to hatch. How long should I wait for her to sit before just incubating them myself. Also what should I be routinely medicating for?
Hi, I was thinking about hatching peachicks next year. This year, neither peahen went broody but laid about 9 eggs each. Next year, could I hatch the chicks under broody silkies and keep the hen and chicks on wire for the 3 months, or should I take them away once they hatch? Also, I have the...
Oh yes I forgot to say, she's 16 weeks old so no eggs yet, they're on growers pellets and a few black soldier fly larvae. The poop had a bit of grass and some seedy bits.
Hi, does anyone know what to use to get rid of lice in chickens. I'm in ireland so most products in the US aren't available here. I have used diatomaceous earth but it hasnt fully solved the problem.
Thank you
My favourite memory of the summer was hatching eggs under a broody hen for the first time. Only one hatched and of course he's a cockerell. That one egg cost me over €1,000 but once Sesame is happy I'm happy. I got him 8 new ladies but sadly 3 died from an unknown illness but they are better...
