Got some quail chicks a little while back and need some more females as the males are getting a little rough. Looking to buy about 5 females. Anyone here in Jacksonville Florida willing to part with some? Just pm or comment with your price. Thank you!
So a month ago I posted that my Coturnix quail has gone broody, I at first did not believe it but she seemed dedicated to it so I gave her some fertile eggs to sit on that I got from a local source. Fast forward 18 days and I have some new babies!! I honestly could not believe that a coturnix...
One of my quail is broody but does not have fertile eggs to sit on since I do not have any males, does anyone know a trusted source for fertile Coturnix quail eggs online? I would go to a farmers market in town but the ones I know of are only open on Saturdays and Sundays.
Yeah I've heard that it was bred out of them which is why I'm a bit surprised that she is acting this way. Oh boy they sure do eat a lot, too bad I can't keep chickens where I'm located so I guess I'll stick with quail. Also, yes it's a feed container from walmart, I buy them just to use them...
About 4 weeks ago a raccoon got into my aviary and killed all the quail that were in there, and turned over a jar of bird feed i had in there for my Cockatiels that share the aviary. I had only two females left which I temporarily moved out of the aviary before the raccoon got in because they...
No idea if this is the correct place to post this or not so if I'm wrong, please forgive me!
I've spent countless hours trying to find laws that cover chicken keeping in Duval County of Jacksonville Florida and I have not found anything that answered my questions. On BYC I found that we are...
Planted a couple jalapeno plants in my aviary to put some more foliage into their environment and now I'm wondering, will the quail be negatively affected by the plants? What about the peppers that might fall off the plant?
I ended up taking the quail eggs away.. Don't want to raise any problems with this "experiment". She'll just sit on her eggs and I'll make sure she doesn't steal any others. Thanks for all the help everyone!
I'm gonna go ahead and seal off the area with some mesh and once the quail hatch I'll put them in the house for them to grow, leaving only the cockatiels in the nest. The female cockatiel does not like the quail so they won't go anywhere near her for long enough to lay more eggs.. Plus they...
So I have an 8'x8' aviary with about 15 quail, i recently put my two cockatiels in there because they were trying to hatch eggs and it just wasn't working out inside so I thought maybe the heat outside would help. So i set up a nest and everything she needs, she laid 4 eggs in the nest I made...
So I want to try hatching eggs again. First 2 times I tried, I did it in a homemade incubator and it didn't end well. (Out of 70 eggs only 1 hatched.) Anyways, Does anyone know any good incubators that are relatively cheap but good and have good results? I'm not talking about those cheap $40...
So, after about 3 weeks I'm glad to say the quail is doing great! I put him into the aviary a week ago and he loves it. I didn't put any females in there with him because I will have a bad female to male ratio as 2 females have died for some reason. Anyways, just wanted to tell you guys he is...
Alright I guess I'll have to try that in a week or two once he gets used to not having an eye and once it heals. Thanks for all the help! I appreciate it greatly.
Oh no I meant the male is scared of the female. I took her out. He does not stop hitting his head on the roof of the brooder. Do you think I should put her back in of should I just put them together in the aviary when he heals that way there will be more room for them to get away from each other...
Okay so I decided to put a female into the brooder with the male so that when I put them together into the aviary they will not fight.. When I put her in there he started making sounds and jumping around as if he wants to get out... I took her out for about 5 minutes and he calmed down. Should I...
I don't know how high they can climb/jump but, you could just put sponges into the bowls and they wont drown. If you do end up doing this make sure there is no way they can get into the water and only are able to walk on top of the sponges. Sorry if I wasn't any help. Good luck on your brand new...
