X2.
My run is also as secure as I can make it - hardware cloth all the way up the sides, buried apron, and on the roof under the roofing panels. Concrete blocks & pavers all the way around, with additional concrete poured along parts of the frame to close up any potential weak spots.

I think I'm doing a 'modified' sort of deep litter and it's working really well for me. I have 2-3" bed of pine shavings (thick enough to give orpingtons a soft landing), and every morning I do a quick scoop of the poop clumps under the roost. I keep a 5 gallon bucket w/ lid next to the coop...
I spread mine out on the carport to dry. It usually takes 3-4 days, depending on the weather and how often I flip it over with the rake. If I want to speed it up I lay it out on a tarp in the sun - that will get it dried in a day (gotta love that blazing Texas sun, lol!).
The nice thing about...
Sorry! Should have known it wouldn't be that simple!
That's the craziest map! I wonder why so much of it is forbidden? And why would they lump chickens and bees together? I can certainly see bees as a hazard, but chickens? Weird!
Anyway - best of luck getting your chickens! Where there's a...
Hmmm - okay, here's my two cents.
I just read a thread about a chicken that was snatched off a 6 ft. fence by a dog. So if you've got breeds that can fly well I wouldn't count on the fence keeping them in (unless you clip their wings).
Raccoons and foxes can easily climb wooden fences...
So sorry for your loss! That's heartbreaking, and such a beautiful chicken too.
OP - how tall is your fence? I don't know anything about Sicilian buttercups, and I'm just curious how high they can fly (and how high that dog can jump!).
Poor girl. Thank you for sharing your story - it's a...
I think more people see what you're saying than you realize. The problem isn't with keeping a dog in a kennel. It's whether or not the dog is treated respectfully and humanely. There are many people who kennel their dogs and the dogs are well treated. They have regular social interaction with...
Hi! I did a quick search because I was curious about the zoning laws and I found this:
https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/boston-massachusetts-chicken-ordinance
It lists the actual ordinances/laws and a link for more info. Looks maybe you can have chickens, you just need a permit?
Hope...
The world definitely needs peacemakers like you to wrangle in the hot-headed people like me, lol!
Great post - tried to give you an ovation but l'm over my limit.
