I have. I am leaning toward it being vitamins. About 20 minutes after the chick boost, she was chirping more and less lethargic. She is able to stand and walk, but just very wobbly.
This was about half an hour after the electrolytes
Baby got stuck behind the brooder plate. She hatched about 48hrs ago. I don't know if this is related. She was lethargic and unable to stand. I got a bit of chick boost into her, and she has been warming on my chest for the last hour. She has perked up, but is still weak and having trouble...
Update:
I am pretty sure I just saw my BCM getting ready to lay (hanging out in the box and scratching around), and I have gotten one more dark colored egg yesterday.
I haven't gotten any more light colored eggs-- the last one was on 1/27-- so I am still not sure who laid the first two, but...
I am gathering eggs every day. I search the coop and run, as the EE lays everywhere except the nest box.
I had egg #1 on 1/25, and egg #2 on 1/26, and then no brown egg until today (1/31). I have 5 hens total. The two I know are laying lay green & blue.
I have 5 hens who are at laying age. I know my EE and Colorpack are laying.
I also have a Lavender Orpington, Welsummer, and Black Copper Marans. They are all 5.5 months old hatched within a few days of each other.
I thought my Welsummer had started laying-- I got one speckled egg, then...
Sigh. I know. 😅 I was hopeful that the other orpington was a runt because my French Black Marans and Colorpack are about the same size as him. Though he is bigger than the Colorpack now.
These are the best that I could get without the chicken running away screaming. 😅 Because of the move, they didn't get as much attention as I would have liked to give them when they were little.
I was thinking that, too. It was kind of crazy though. That one grew so fast, and the other one was always smaller than the other chicks. Like, at 2 weeks, the big orpington was twice the size of the other one.
Today, they were out in the run, and the bigger orpington was fluttering its wings...
Ours chicks are 12 weeks old.
We have:
2 Lavender Orpingtons
1 Colorpack
1 Welsummer
1 Black French Marans
1 Easter Egger
One of the orpingtons has always been smaller than the other. I'm afraid the larger of the two might be a rooster, just based on size.
We still have the shed. It was built in about 1930, and my husband decided that it would make a better workshop/storage area than a chicken coop. He is probably right.
I kind of like the little a-frame. I feel like you could just flip it over on its side to clean the run, but not the coop. My...
Thanks.
I do have tools-- jigsaw, table saw, circulating saw, driver/drill, and a staple or nail gun-- and I know how to use them.
I have a minivan, no truck.
I have a teenage helper.
I didn't know a cull pile was a thing at HD. I might be able to check the local lumber yard also, as it is...
Hi Friends,
The shed that I had planned on using as a coop is no longer an option. My 6 birds are 12 weeks old and need to be out of our garage enjoying the sunshine.
On hand, I have:
1 2x4x12 piece of wood
2 4x8 stock panels
1 roll of 1/4" hardware cloth
4 7ft t-posts
Pieces of an old bunk...
