Paralyzed dog is walking by himself!!!

When my dog was hit by a car the vet said he would never walk again. Same xrays, no breaks, swelling around the spinal cord. The dog did not want to live, but I insisted. It took months for him to pull up on front legs and drag back legs. Took a few more weeks to get back legs under him and...

Best way to peel boiled eggs?

Only fool-proof way I've found is to put eggs in cold water, bring to a boil, turn off heat and allow them to cool in the same water. Works every time. Like brooster said, never use fresh eggs, let them age a few days. I let mine "age" in the fridge, not on the counter.

    I made a No Sew Duck(ling) Diaper

Do people allow ducks to free range their homes? I've discovered many people who allow chickens to roam freely through their house (still gagging over that), but didn't realize people also allow ducks to do that. If the babies are in a brooder, why diapers? Just curious.

Are you "ready for HD TV?"

Subliminal messages through HDTV???? Too funny - it's a fact that present Marketing Techniques are working just fine, no need to worry about subliminal messaging......nevertheless, I'm buying a tin-foil hat, just be on the safe side......

Combs look horrible, black - but it's not frostbite

Thanks for the post, I'll have to learn about dust bathing in wood ash as I've not heard of that. Fireplace ashes, right? Hummmmmm. Anyway, before I go into hours of searching, any information on this dust bathing in wood ashes?

    Cockerel with foot issues

Ditto what dl said. The Avia Charge 2000 is a bit expensive, but worth the cost in my opinion. I've never had to use Polyvisol, so no idea about that. Thanks for the reminder about the salt, dl. We have no streets, but must salt areas on our porch and walkway and @ front of hen house door...

    Feathers growing extra slow

Coprophilia is usually a sign of vitamin/mineral deficit. I've never noticed the chickens doing it, but many animals do if something is lacking in their diet. I would suggest vitamin water. Mine get fresh vitamin water daily and I believe it makes a difference in their health. I think it's...

Keep finding eggs outside the nest boxes and coop??

Chickens like to roll eggs, maybe it's their form of soccer.

Who else talks to eggs in the bator??

Uhhhhh...since it's "confession time", I was out there a couple of months ago trying to teach my Rooster to crow. *cough* Just add me to the "nut list".

Jan. 19th we honor the birthday of a great man

If I had to choose to "remember" one over the other, I'd chose to honor Martin Luther King, Jr., in thoughts. Tough choice, but guess it comes down to honoring a war hero or a peace activist. Since Grant took Richmond, might just decide to honor him as well. Have a Happy Government Holiday.

    Broke back farm?:)

Mounting is just a sign of domination. All animals do it, humans included, males and females alike. Spay/neuter makes no difference to the act, it's natural/nature.

    Danger of Canada Geese!!!!

Guess we are weird, we love them. They flock the lake to the point of almost total surface cover and honk day and night. Sounds like it irritates a few people, but we love the sound. Maybe I just like anything Canadian.

    Hawks

Be very careful when doing this. The feds can easily track you down and prosecute for illegal activites like killing raptors and other protected birds...

    Frozen eggs

That's strange, the electric water heaters are programmed to turn on @ 32 degrees. Our water is never frozen. Maybe your friends electric heater has malfunctioned. I agree that purchasing the heater online is less expensive than purchasing @ feed store. Even with the s/h fee it was around...

China confirms girl infected with bird flu

According to report, it has killed more than 200 people since 2003. 200+ out of 700 billion. Pretty good odds we will survive. I'll choose to not keep it in top of mind awareness, but thanks for the update.

Peanut butter scare- can I feed it to the chickens?

Who is "they" and why did "they" say it is not to be eaten? Regardless, if it's a recall, return it to the store. I would not feed my animals any foods that had been recalled.

*crap* Lost one to a hawk... maybe two...

Sorry to be blunt about this, but the only way to keep hawks from eating your chickens is with a shotgun. Yes, it's illegal, but I was told by officials that protecting your stock is a priority, and as long as you don't shoot it then take a picture of your kill and post it on the courthouse...

How I miss summer here (Pic Heavy)

Very nice, ridge. I prefer the winter (unlike most), and agree that a digital cannot capture the absolute beauty of any season when on the water.

    Yesterday was a rough one

Prissy, Virginia is much nicer than Florida, don't move. We invested in a thermostatically controlled base for the chickies water, have not had a problem with water freezing so can't help you there. We are in Michigan so the cold/snow/ice lasts at least 5 months. If memory serves me (as it...
