I have noticed there is an interaction of blue with the expression of the red or mahogony in my line. The silver blues have much more red showing than the silvers do. In fact my silver blues are as red as my blue double laced in ground color except you can tell they are silvers because they...
Nice looking Cockerel Trisha.
How many boys do you keep over winter?
I have four Johans, one of my line I am working on and three silvers. I will probably just keep my roo from last year and best cockerel past January. The youngsters are not up to weight yet so I will give them another...
The second roo looks very clean to me, in the picture he doesn't seem to be showing any mahogony in the shoulders the way mine do, so just guessing I would say he is S/S. He still has a way to go on type and has a tail that is more like Plymouth Rock, but I like his color..
If you breed him...
Hi Donna
She is a very pretty pullet.
In my birds I have a rooster I know to be a split and I have two cockerels I hatched this year that I suspect may be S/S. All three have some red leakage, I think the only way I can be certain is to breed them with my S/ females and see if we get all...
I would say it does not look like a straight Barnevelder x Welsummer Cross because it looks like it has some columbia restrictors giving it the dark neck striping, what are the other breeds in the mix that are possibilities
Thanks Trisha
I have a wide range in quality of birds to choose from so far. Some pullets have nice lacing and some have thin and weak lacing, some have more red leakage than others. The cockerels are really all over the place in size and pattern. I will post some photos of the boys to show...
One of my Spring 2014 large fowl silver double laced pullets.
I have about 20 pullets and about 10 cockerals.
I will post more pictures when I get a chance.

I start giving my layers oyster shell once they start to lay. If you use layer feed then switch them over when they start to lay.
I never worm my chickens. If they seem healthy and lay well I don't see a need to worm them.
Maybe your and others situations are different than mine.
You...
Hi DD
I saw your post about your Barnevelder winning best Continental at the Washington show. Congratulations and I think she is nice looking. What is her background?
We (my boys and I) have shown our Barnies and other birds in Washington and Oregon shows in the past. Mainly the PNPA...
Hi Chell
Welcome to the thread, You are committed to read all of this in such a short time.
I wish you the best with your birds and you will get some good advice here but also lots of opinion. I see others have had a range of experiences with Black coper marans and with Barnevelders.
I...
I have been hatching quite a few large fowl silver double laced project chicks this spring so far. Here is a picture of my silver split roo (S/s+) that I am using on my silver and silver blue hens this spring. Boy is about a year old. He is a hair under 7 pounds a bit smaller than my other...
