My 22 week black star is stretching her neck and opening her mouth to breath in. She us eating and drinking but us a little lethargic. I am worried. I separated her from the rest of the hens for now.
Wow, happy story! She did recover nicely. She was a lonely bird for about a week. She avoided all the chickens and we were best friends. But now she hangs out with the banties again and runs a little faster if the bully comes around. I give them a lot of credit.
My 20 week old black sex link laid these teeeeeny egg today! (in the middle) The one one the right is from a red sex link. The one on the right is from a silkie cross banty. Yay!
Well at five weeks their little black feathers started coming in everywhere....sigh. So off they went with a girl up the road to show in 4-H. Cock-a-doodle-doo.
Can a chicken suffer from Pica? My silkie has been pecking and trying eat things that have no nutritional value..cotton balls , paper, tin foil, wood, etc. What is going on? She eats a layer from our local co-op. She has access to grit, oyster shell and lots of water. She gets treats of...
Thanks, guys. I flushed it with saline the best I could. I covered in neosporin. Looks like she'll be in the kennel a couple days. The bleeding stopped and I cooked her an egg. And I thought I was just going to have a quiet night with my book.

My *@&#% of a red star just pecked a hole in the neck of my silkie. I can pick up the skin and see inside. She is bloody buy not bleeding out. She is walking around okay but how do I clean and prevent infection???
My chicks have been free ranging with my flock since they were 3 weeks old. Their adopted mom is near them. But now at 4 weeks she's a little less protective. I have never had a problem. But I think hiding spaces are important just in case.
TexasLea, thank you for the link. madi99, I love your profile pic!!! I don't know why they are dilly dallying with growing up. They are from a farm a few miles from me. TexasLea thought maybe since they aren't from a hatchery they may grow/feather differently?
In my case, attitude, not just size, matters. I have two tiny "who knows what" hens who forage all day with a red star, black stars, RIR, and barred rock. Nobody cares about who's who. But my silkie, who is bigger than the two little ones has been harassed since day one. The standards pick...
